Abstract We explore the implications of integrating social distancing with emergency evacuation, as would be expected when a hurricane approaches a city during the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, we compare DNN (Deep Neural Network)-based and non-DNN methods for generating evacuation strategies that minimize evacuation time while allowing for social distancing in emergency vehicles. A central question is whether a DNN-based method provides sufficient extra routing efficiency to accommodate increased social distancing in a time-constrained evacuation operation. We describe the problem as a Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem and solve it using a non-DNN solution (Sweep Algorithm) and a DNN-based solution (Deep Reinforcement Learning). The DNN-based solution can provide decision-makers with more efficient routing than the typical non-DNN routing solution. However, it does not come close to compensating for the extra time required for social distancing, and its advantage disappears as the emergency vehicle capacity approaches the number of people per household.

A company has to deliver its product to thirty-five points/customers. In delivering process, there are limitations such as the number of vehicles, vehicle capacity, and driver's working hours. The company wants to find a better/shorter route in distributing its product to customer in order to minimize the transportation cost. The problem can considered as the Capacited Vehicle Routing Problem. In this paper, the Sweep algorithm are first used to find the initial solution. The local search procedures are used to the solution obtained by the Sweep algorithm. Four local searches are applied, 1-insertion intra-route, 1- insertion inter-route, 1-1 intra –route and 1-1 inter-route. The solutions produced by each local search are then compared, and the best one is selected. The best solution is given by the 1-Insertion intra-route procedure. It is 27,923 km shorter (15% better) than the current routes.

The purpose of this research is to solve the Close-Open Mixed Vehicle Routing Problem (COMVRP) using Bat Algorithm. COMVRP which is a combination of Close Vehicle Routing Problem or commonly known as Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) with Open Vehicle Routing Problem (OVRP) is a problem to determine vehicles route in order to minimize total distance to serve customers without exceed vehicle capacity. COMVRP occurs when the company already has private vehicles but its capacity could not fulfill all customer demands so the company must rent several vehicles from other companies to complete the distribution process. In this case, the private vehicle returns to the depot after serving the last customer while the rental vehicle does not need to return. Bat algorithm is an algorithm inspired by the process of finding prey from small bats using echolocation. The implementation program to solve was created using Java programming with NetBeans IDE 8.2 software which was implemented using 3 cases, small data with 18 customers, medium data with 75 customers and large data with 100 customers. Based on the implementation results, it can be concluded that the more iterations, the smaller total costs are obtained, while for the pulse rate and the amount of bat tends not to affect the total cost obtained.

The vehicle routing problem is investigated by using some adaptations of the variable neighborhood search (VNS).The initial solution was obtained by Dijkstra’s algorithm based on cost network constructed by the sweep algorithm andthe 2-opt. Our VNS algorithm use several neighborhoods which were adapted for this problem. In addition, a number oflocal search methods together with a diversification procedure were used. The algorithm was then tested on the data setsfrom the literature and it produced competitive results if compared to the solutions published.

The vehicle routing problem is to determine K vehicle routes, where a route is a tour that begins at the depot, traverses a subset of the customers in a specified sequence and returns to the depot. Each customer must be assigned to exactly one of the K vehicle routes and total size of deliveries for customers assigned to each vehicle must not exceed the vehicle capacity. The routes should be chosen to minimize total travel cost. <p><em>Determining the vehicle routing is one of the important components in existing logistics systems. It is because the vehicle route problem has some effect on transportation costs and time required in the logistics system. In determining the vehicle routes, there are some restrictions faced, such as the maximum capacity of the vehicle and a time limit in which depot or customer has a limited or spesific opening hours (time windows). This problem referred to Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows (VRPTW). To solve the VRPTW, this study developed a meta-heuristic method called Hybrid Restart Simulated Annealing with Variable Neighborhood Search (HRSA-VNS). HRSA-VNS algorithm is a modification of Simulated Annealing algorithm by adding a restart strategy and using the VNS algorithm scheme in the stage of finding neighborhood solutions (neighborhood search phase). Testing the performance of HRSA-VNS algorithm is done by comparing the results of the algorithm to the Best Known Solution (BKS) and the usual SA algorithm without modification. From the results obtained, it is known that the algorithm perform well enough in resolving the VRPTW case with the average differences are -2.0% with BKS from Solomon website, 1.83% with BKS from Alvarenga, and -2.2% with usual SA algorithm without any modifications.</em></p><p><em>Keywords : vehicle routing problem, time windows, simulated annealing, VNS, restart</em></p>

We consider the shortest path problem with resource constraints arising as a subproblem in state-of-the-art branch-cut-and-price algorithms for vehicle routing problems. We propose a variant of the bidirectional label-correcting algorithm in which the labels are stored and extended according to the so-called bucket graph. This organization of labels helps to significantly decrease the number of dominance checks and the running time of the algorithm. We also show how the forward/backward route symmetry can be exploited and how to eliminate arcs from the bucket graph using reduced costs. The proposed algorithm can be especially beneficial for vehicle routing instances with large vehicle capacity and/or with time window constraints. Computational experiments were performed on instances from the distance-constrained vehicle routing problem, including multidepot and site-dependent variants, on the vehicle routing problem with time windows, and on the “nightmare” instances of the heterogeneous fleet vehicle routing problem. Significant improvements over the best algorithms in the literature were achieved, and many instances could be solved for the first time.

The German Collaborative Research Centre 637 “Autonomous Cooperating Logistic Processes – A Paradigm Shift and its Limitations”, develops, among other things, autonomous routing algorithms for transport networks. The discussed algorithm is designed to match goods and vehicles and to continuously make route decisions within a dynamic transport network. Here, each object makes its own decisions. It is called Distributed Logistics Routing Protocol – DLRP. Because of obvious similarities to the Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP), one question arises for both practitioners and researchers: How efficient is this protocol compared to traditional, established algorithms or in comparison to the optimal solution? This article tries to answer this question, which appears simple on the first and challenging on the second view.
