SPECIAL COMMITIEE ON AGING
I am writing on behalf of my constituents in the Towns of Chatham, Ghent and Stockport
that are affected by the above- referenced transmission line project being advanced by the New
York State Electric & Gas Corporation ("NYSEG"). As I understand it, NYSEG's application for a
Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need from the Public Service Commission
has been postponed due to deficiencies in their filing. I thank you for addressing those concerns and
urge you to consider local concerns as well when finalizing your decisions on tlus matter.
The current proposal has atuacted significant concern from local residents, who are
concerned about the potential loss of large amounts of active agricultural land, ti,e project's potential
inlpacts on the historic and cultural resources in ti,e area, including but not limited to Art Omi, as
well as the visual impacts on ti,e area's beautiful parks, recreation areas, and scenic byways. A large
number of constituents have reached out to me and expressed these worries. Many of tI,em are
afraid that their voices are not being heard. I am writing to urge you to heat their thoughts and take
tI,em under consideration.
I genuinely hope that you and your colleagues in ti,e Public Service Commission will ensure
a thorough, fair, and balanced review of the NYSEG project, including siting alternatives and tllat
could address ti,e concerns raised about ti,e project.
Should you have any questions concenung this correspondence, please do not hesitate to
contact my offi ce at any time.
Thank you for your consideration.
