SCHOOL OF MUSIC

CONFIDENTIAL
February 11, 2013 To whom it may concern: I am pleased to write this recommendation letter for Victoria Rogers. I have known Victoria for almost four years and have had the pleasure of having her as a student, both in group piano and in early childhood music practicum, and also of collaborating with her as her accompanist. I first met Victoria when she was a freshman in my group piano class at SUNY Potsdam. She was a wonderful student, very talented, always prepared, and had a great attitude. Although, she could have easily tested out of all the group piano classes, she chose to participate in the classes, anyway. She would often help the students who hadn't played piano before or who were struggling with some of the concepts or coordination. When I collaborated with Victoria on her juries and recitals, I found that Victoria was not only talented as a musician, but also very dedicated and hard working on her major instrument. She got a little discouraged when she didn't win the school concerto competition, but channeled that frustration and earned her place as concertmaster the very next semester. She is naturally very musical and works very hard in order to be able to express her ideas on the violin. Victoria really flourished in the early childhood music practicum. She was already very comfortable singing and enjoyed interacting with young children. This practicum allowed her to combine these two interests. I could see her excitement increase over the semester as she realized how much these young children, and even infants, can do. She would often come to my office and ask for more activities and songs that she could learn. I strongly recommend to Victoria to any graduate school or employer. She has the kind of personality that attracts people to her. She is responsible and talented and will do a great job at anything she sets out to accomplish. She is a role model to her students and colleagues and a pleasure to have in the classroom.
