Community Language Learning-1

Community Language Learning advises teachers to consider students as whole persons and focus on their feelings in addition to their intellect. Teachers act as language counselors who provide a non-threatening environment for students. The techniques involve tape recording student conversations, reflection on experiences, and translating utterances. This allows students to share difficulties, develop inner wisdom about their learning, and feel a sense of community by learning from each other. The goals are to help students learn communicatively, take responsibility for their learning, and learn from one another. The teacher takes a counseling role while students become more independent through interaction and responsibility. Learning works best in a trusting, supportive relationship between teacher and students.
