ABSTRACT

A WLAN is an on-premise data communication system that reduces the need for wired connections and makes new applications possible, thereby adding new flexibility to the telecom network. Mobile WLAN users can access information and network resources as they attend meetings, collaborate with other users, or move to other campus locations. WLANs have proven their effectiveness in vertical markets and are now experiencing broader applicability in a wide range of business settings. Manufacturers of wireless LANs have a range of technologies to choose from while providing a wireless LAN solution. IEEE 802.11 is a set of standards for implementing wireless local area network (WLAN) computer communication in the 2.4, 3.6 and 5 GHz frequency bands. The objective of the work is to design and develop aperture coupled array antenna for WLAN applications. In the proposed work, an attempt has been to achieve high gain, size reduction, and cost reduction for long distance communication. The antenna should cover the wide bandwidth of 5 to 6 GHz at a gain of 18dBi. For efficient and commercial applications, the number of elements in the array must be minimal as much as possible. In the proposed work, to in order to achieve high gain and bandwidth, the first step of the process is designing a high gain antenna with aperture coupled feed and then by adopting it in array to achieve the desired gain. In order to enhance the directivity and suppress the side lobes unequal power division has been made.
