Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan Ohio. When Edison went to school his mind would wander and develop amazing ideas his teacher thought were crazy. She believed he had a learning disability and he was removed from the school. He only went to school for 3 months! After this he was schooled by his mother. She encouraged his curiosity and he developed many small steam engine models and experimented with chemicals. Thomas Edison has been credited with the invention and discovery of these items and services. The phonograph a machine that recorded sound by carving grooves into metal or wax cylinders with a small needle. He also invented the kinetoscope a small machine containing a strip of photographs and when a person looked into while the strip was rolling it appeared that the objects in the photos looked like they were moving.
He developed the Edison Moving Picture Machine an early cinema projector and later developed a film company that made the first talking motion picture film in 1912. Edison Improved on the telephone system invented by Alexander Graham Bell and sold the Edison telephone system in England. Edison found a way to easily distribute power to homes and work places and by the 1890s hundreds towns had Edison power stations. Edisons Most Notable Achievement. In 1878 Edison worked to improve the Electric light bulb invented by Sir Joseph Swann in England electricity was passed through a filament wire which made the filament glow. The wire was encase in a glass bulb He tried many different filament materials to make the globe produce a brighter light such as burnt sowing thread and bamboo. By the end of 1880 he had developed a 16 watt bulb that lasted 1500 hours.
