Yoshihiko Noda: Japan's parliament elected former finance minister Yoshihiko Noda as the new prime minister, the country's sixth leader in five years. RBI GDP forecast: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) maintained 8% growth forecast for 2011-12 for economy, which grew by 8.5% in previous year. Slow Economic Growth: India's economy grew by 7.7% during April to June, the slowest in 18 months, mirroring signs of a slowdown as rising input costs and costlier borrowing squeeze corporate expansions. Argentina vs. Venezuela football match in India: In a first ever Argentina plays Venezuela in an international friendly football match at Yuva Bharati Krirangan or Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. Justice Soumitra Sen: Justice Soumitra Sen of the Calcutta High Court, who is facing impeachment proceedings, is in news as he has resigned. He has sent his letter to President Pratibha Patil. Rajya Sabha had approved the impeachment motion against Justice Sen. If the lower house passes motion to impeach him, Justice Sen could become the countrys first judge whose removal has been sought by parliament for misconduct. Best liveable cities of the world: Australian city Melbourne has been named as the world's most liveable city, while India's business capital Mumbai placed at 116th position in an annual survey that assessed living conditions in 140 global cities. According to the Economic Intelligence Unit's new Global Liveability Survey, Melbourne dislodged Vancouver to become the best city in the world to live.
