November 2, 2013 Social Studies 2nd Grade Mary Vining 40 minutes NL-ENG. K-12.6 Applying Knowledge. SS (4) Discuss celebrations in the United States and around the world. Students will arrange pictures in order of the different federal holidays on a timeline (January-December). Students will be introduced to the different holidays celebrated throughout the year in the United States and around the world. Students will be shown holidays with an image/picture on the smart board and have to identify the holiday. Students will also be asked to tell who celebrates the holiday. The teacher will put all the holidays on a timeline (January-December). The teacher will walk around the classroom observing students. The students are coloring pictures to represent a holiday that we celebrate in the United States. Then students will cut out the picture and glue it on a timeline that they have to draw on a poster board. The teacher will grade the timelines based on the picture and holiday matching. And if the holiday was placed in the correct location on the timeline. Have students pick their favorite holiday. Students will write a journal entry about why that is their favorite holiday?

Attention Problems: Set that student near your desk. Shape approximations of desired behavior by providing direct reinforcement such as praise or immediate feedback for correct answers. Make a positive, personal comment every time the student

shows any evidence of interest. Make frequent check for assignment progress/completion. Give advance warning of when a transition is going to take place. Visually impaired student should be near the front of the classroom close to the board. A hard of hearing child will need to be near the teachers desk. Self-Reflection: Was there enough time for this lesson? Should I change anything about this lesson? Where the students able to identify the federal holidays? Where the students able to correctly label their timelines? Was this project too difficult for the class?
