Teaching Philosophy Stephen Brandt Music

I believe that music is the most versatile subject in the schooling system. Students learn so much from music. As a music educator I believe that it is my duty to incorporate all subjects into the music classroom, and teach the students how to incorporate music into all other aspects of education. Music itself can be beneficial to any student. They learn how to express themselves, have a better self identity, and also develop a sense of community. No other subject can create such relationships inside the classroom. Through my love of music, I want to inspire students to grow in all ways and to pursue what they love. I want to give them the tools to be successful in the next steps of their life from what they learned in the music classroom. The most important thing that music teaches is collaboration. In no other class do students depend on each other for 90% of the meeting time. This is put to words perfectly by my college choir director, If you want to go fast, go alone; If you want to go far, go together. Collaboration is the most important part of the real world. When students grow up and are looking for jobs, they must work well with others. Even if the student that I am teaching does not become a musician or educator, they will be successful with their endeavors because they learned teamwork and collaboration in my classroom. Every subject material can be applied to any other subject, but what students learn in the music room can be applied to the rest of their life.
