Amendments Project

Ivan Villalobos Aviles Government

Amendments are..
An amendment is a change to a legal or statutory document.

Four ways to change the constitution are:

The First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. The First amendment allows me to speak my thoughts and opinions about things without worry of penalty of law. It allows me to stand up for what I believe in.

The Second Amendment

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. The second amendment allows us to ensure our safety by having the right to have firearms. This is important for me as I love my family and friends very much.

The First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. The first amendment also protects me and other citizens from any form of religious prosecution. This means my mom and dad can be Christian, while my friend Kyle on the other hand can be Jewish.

The Fourth Amendment

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized The fourth amendment protects me from unreasonable searches and seizures. It gives me the right to feel secure in my own home because the police can not enter without a warrant.

The fifteenth amendment

Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. The fifteenth amendment is important to me because it gives me voting rights regardless of my color, or race.

The Eighth Amendment

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted. If for any reason I'm to be arrested in the future, I can always count on the eighth amendment to keep me in one piece.

The Sixteenth Amendment

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration. The sixteenth amendment directly affects me and my money. Each time I get a pay check, or even make a purchase, the government has the right to tax.

The Twenty Sixth Amendment

Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age. Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation The twenty sixth amendment protects my right to vote as long as I'm over 18 years of age or older.

Removal of the Third Amendment

No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law. The third amendment is no longer needed in the country, as there are now military bases.

Addition of the Twenty Eighth Amendment

The right of citizens of the United States to marry shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex The addition of the twenty eighth amendment effects me because I have gay friends, and I want to make sure their rights are protected just as much as mine.
