What are the parameters to be considered while selecting a pump? What are the characteristics of rotary actuators? What is the function of a pressure relief valve? How does it differ functionally from a pressure reducing valve? State the function of solenoid operated 4/2 DCV? What are the functions of an accumulator in the circuits? Discuss the real life applications of sequencing circuits? What are the basic law that governs the pneumatic systems? Explain about switching circuits? Which system is called low cost automation? Why? How is microprocessors used in pneumatic systems?

(a) Explain the construction and working of a balanced vane pump. What are its salient features?(16) Or (b) Sketch the arrangement of a double acting linear actuators? Explain the application of such actuators? (16) (16)

(a) With neat sketches, explain any four types of direction control valves. Or

(b) With neat sketches, explain the construction and working of pressure compensated flow control valve and servo - valves. (16)

(a) With circuit diagrams, compare the meter in and meter out circuits. Or (b) Design a hydraulic circuit for a tracer controlled copying lathe.

(a) Design a pneumatic sequencing circuit for 3 cylinders A, B and C whose sequence of operation is given below. A+ A- B+ B- C+ C- B+ve sign for forward stroke and ve sign for return stroke of the piston. Incorporate a switch for the start of the cycle. Or (b) Write short notes on: (i) Logic circuits. (ii) Mapping methods. (iii) Combination circuit design. (6+5+5) (16)
