On December 31, 2013, Jose Mendoza (20) was found shot and killed behind a business in Berwyn, Illinois. After reviewing surveillance video and conducting interviews, police determined it was an attempted armed robbery and charged three men - Eddie Garcia (21) of Berwyn, Salvador Alvarado (25) of Cicero, and Jonathan Ivory (24) of Westchester - with first degree murder and attempted armed robbery. All three appeared in court on January 5, 2014 for their bond hearing.

www.berwynpolicedepartment.com Homicide Investigation 2144 Oak Park Victim Jose Mendoza (20) On December 31, 2013 at 9:41 PM the Berwyn Police Department received a call of a man down inside a business, Millennium Cuts located at 2144 S. Oak Park Ave. Upon the arrival of responding police units they observed a male subject lying on the floor. Forced entry was made to the business; at which time the victim was unresponsive and appeared to have a single gunshot to the upper chest area. EMS personnel arrived on the scene and transported the victim, later identified as 20 year old Jose Mendoza to Loyola Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.

After conducting a thorough investigation and a review of video surveillance it was determined Jose Mendoza was the victim of an attempt armed robbery behind the business located at 2144 S. Oak Park Ave. Further information developed that led to the identity of the possible offenders who were subsequently located and taken into custody. The Berwyn Police Department along with Cook County States Attorneys Office conducted thorough interviews and reviewed all evidence recovered, at which time charges were approved against the offenders identified as, 21 year old Eddie Garcia of Berwyn, 25 year old Salvador Alvarado of Cicero and 24 year old Jonathan Ivory of Westchester. Each offender was charged with one count of First Degree Murder and one count of Attempt Armed Robbery. All three offenders appeared before a judge in Maybrook Court for bond hearing on January 5th 2014.
