Tolerance Stack Up Analysis

A tolerance analysis is typically done to determine if parts will assemble successfully and function properly when tolerances are taken into account. It assumes parts are rigid and machined to the middle of their tolerances. A tolerance analysis can determine if tolerances can be increased to lower costs, if parts will meet requirements under worst conditions, and provides documentation of dimensional design requirements for potential future issues.

, it is assumed that all parts are rigid in the free state and that they retainthat shape when assembled. owe!er, it is understood that a part may not be rigid in its free state due tolength, si"e, shape or type of material. #t is assumed that all parts are machined to the middle of their dimensions and controlled by a $ualitycontrol program.
