    Adjective Qualifying Noun

    The ‫ﺖ‬ٌ ‫( ﻧَْﻌ‬adjective) in Arabic follows the ٌ ‫( َﻣﻨُْﻌْﻮ‬noun it qualifies) in the


    ‫ﺕ‬
    following:

    Gender: The ‫ﺖ‬ ٌ ‫( ﻧَْﻌ‬adjective) follows the ‫ﺕ‬


    ٌ ‫( َﻣﻨُْﻌْﻮ‬qualifying noun) in gender, so if
    the noun is feminine then the adjective is also feminine e.g.

    ٌ‫ﺻِﻐﻴْﺮ‬
    َ ‫ﺖ‬
    ٌ ْ‫ﺑَﻴ‬
    ‫ﺻِﻐﻴَْﺮﹲﺓ‬
    َ ‫ﹶﻃﺎﻟِﺒَﹲﺔ‬
    Definite: The ٌ ‫ﻧَْﻌ‬
    ‫ﺖ‬ (adjective) follows the ٌ ‫َﻣﻨُْﻌْﻮ‬
    ‫ﺕ‬ (qualifying noun) in definiteness,
    so if the ٌ ‫ َﻣﻨُْﻌْﻮ‬is definite then the ‫ﺖ‬
    ‫ﺕ‬ ٌ ‫ ﻧَْﻌ‬is also definite e.g.

    ‫ﺼﹺﻞ‬
    ْ ‫ﺠِﺪﻳُْﺪ ﻓِْﻲ ﺍﻟﹾﹶﻔ‬
    َ ‫ﺱ ﺍﻟﹾ‬
    ُ ‫ﺍﻟﹾُﻤَﺪﱢﺭ‬
    Case: The ٌ ‫( ﻧَْﻌ‬adjective) takes the same case endings as the ‫ﺕ‬
    ‫ﺖ‬ ٌ ‫َﻣﻨُْﻌْﻮ‬
    (qualifying noun) e.g.
    ٌ‫ﺖ َﺟِﺪﻳْﺪ‬ٌ ْ‫َﻫﹶﺬﺍ ﺑَﻴ‬
    ‫ﺖ َﺟِﺪﻳٍْﺪ‬ ٍ ْ‫ﺃﹶﻧَﺎ ﻓِْﻲ ﺑَﻴ‬
    ‫ﺠِﺪﻳُْﺪ َﺟِﻤﻴْﹲﻞ‬ َ ‫ﺖ ﺍﻟﹾ‬ُ ْ‫ﺍﻟﹾﺒَﻴ‬
    Plural: The ٌ ‫( ﻧَْﻌ‬adjective) follows the ‫ﺕ‬
    ‫ﺖ‬ ٌ ‫( َﻣﻨُْﻌْﻮ‬qualifying noun) in number e.g.

    ٌ‫ﺐ َﻭﺍِﺣﺪ‬ ٌ ِ‫ﹶﻃﺎﻟ‬


    ‫ﹶﻃﺎﻟِﺒَﺎِﻥ ﺍﺛﹾﻨَﺎِﻥ‬
    ‫ﺴﻮ ﹺ‬
    ‫ﻕ‬ ‫ﺼﺎُﺭ ﹶﺫَﻫﺒُْﻮﺍ ﺇﱃ ﺍﻟ ﱡ‬
    َ ‫ﺍﻟﱢﺮَﺟﺎﹸﻝ ﺍﻟﹾِﻘ‬
