Cormac McCarthys the Road shows how easily humanitys

Cormac McCarthys the road takes readers on a journey uncovering the surprising yet original and
ugly characteristics of humanity where all values, ethics and morals which have seemingly masked
human evolution to be stripped to its barebones where we in all aspects return to animalistic and
cave-men like lifestyles where humanity originally began. The road explores how the survivors have
handled this state of adversity and the ways characters are fuelled to continue fighting for survival.
Like a domesticated dog released back into the wild, humanitys hidden characteristics are being
revealed in shame whilst covering up the characteristics of humans former self.In what seems like
humanity driven back to the cave-men times where people are seen to Slouching along with clubs
in their hands suggests that in a new world,we do not what is right or wrong as there have been no
previous history acting as precedents guiding us how to grow.Cannibalistic tribes whose
appearance, education and language sophistication have deteriorated in a death arena who which
the two protagonists(the son and the father) must avoid to avoid the gruesome and horrific
treatment used on the prisoners of the marauders. The emptiness of the world is supported by the
lack of punctuation where apostrophes, extended sentences have not been used to reflect the
emptiness of the world.Mccarthy does not give his two protagonists a name which suggests that this
could happen to anyone and they represent mankind.Use of symbolism when the boy drinks a coke
can and does not know what it is reinforces what kind of world this is.
Good guys vs bad guys arena

Mccarthy shows that even amongst a blackened world where the majority of survivors have
succumbed to savagery there is still hope for humanity through the two protagonists like a rose
amongst the thorns. The father constantly reminds the boy that they are carrying the fire.It is a
fitting use of metaphor which reflects the worlds setting nights beyond darkness and the suvivors
who refuse to descend into savagery.
Through the use of biblical allusions, the father sees
Ely is an allusion to Elijah the prophet

Imagery is seen to be dark full of despair the environment
