The little pink rosebud lived alone underground until one day she heard tapping at her door. It was the Rain asking to come in, but she refused. Later the Sunshine also asked to come in, but she refused them too. Eventually both the Rain and Sunshine came together, and since there were two of them, she let them in. They pulled her up to the surface of the garden where she saw it was springtime and she was the prettiest pink rose surrounded by other flowers.

Once there was a little pink Rosebud, and she lived down in a little dark house under the ground. One day she was sitting there, all by herself, and it was very still. Suddenly, she heard a little TAP, TAP, TAP, at the door.
"ho is that!" she said.
""t#s the Rain, and " want to co$e in%" said a soft, sad, little voice.
"&o, you can#t co$e in," the little Rosebud said.
'y and by she heard another little TAP, TAP, TAP on the window pane.
"ho is there!" she said.
The sa$e soft little voice answered, ""t#s the Rain, and " want to co$e in("
"&o, you can#t co$e in," said the little Rosebud.
1 Then it was very still for a long ti$e. At last, there ca$e a little rustling, whispering sound, all round the window) R*ST+,, -"SP,R, -"SP,R.
"ho is there!" said the little Rosebud.
""t#s the Sunshine," said a little, soft, cheery voice, "and " want to co$e in("
"&..no," said the little pink rose, "you can#t co$e in." And she sat still again.
Pretty soon she heard the sweet little rustling noise at the key.hole.
"ho is there!" she said.
""t#s the Sunshine," said the cheery little voice, "and " want to co$e in, " want to co$e in("
"&o, no," said the little pink rose, "you cannot co$e in."
'y and by, as she sat so still, she heard TAP, TAP, TAP, and R*ST+,, -"SP,R, R*ST+,, all up and down the window pane, and on the door, and at the key.hole.
"-O "S T-,R,!" she said.
2 ""t#s the Rain and the Sun, the Rain and the Sun," said two little voices, together, "and we want to co$e in( e want to co$e in( e want to co$e in("
"/ear, dear(" said the little Rosebud, "if there are two of you, " s#pose " shall have to let you in."
So she opened the door a little wee crack, and in they ca$e. And one took one of her little hands, and the other took her other little hand, and they ran, ran, ran with her, right up to the top of the ground. Then they said,..
"Poke your head through("
So she poked her head through% and she was in the $idst of a beautiful garden. "t was springti$e, and all the other flowers had their heads poked through% and she was the prettiest little pink rose in the whole garden( 3
