The BBFC rating of our film The Unburdened Mind is
a 15 due to violence and bloody scenes. The film itself
it aimed at audiences from 15 to mid 40s depending on what interests that have but suitable for people in this age range to watch. We have purposely aimed this film at a large audience so more than one age group is attracted to it.
We made questionnaires with multiple choice
question as well as open questions to give to people
aged 15 and over to see their feedback and what they expect to see in an opening sequence and what they would like to see.
We also had a focus group of 16 and 17 year olds talking
about our opening sequence and they gave us feedback
on what they liked and didnt like, what they thought about the music and titles. We found this useful because we are aiming our film and people from their age group so getting feedback from them helped us for our film/opening sequence fit our target audience.
This movie is about a psychopathic killer so would not
be suitable for viewers under the age of 15 as it contains
violence, bloody scene, tension as well as a narrative that would not appeal to them.
The only person in our opening sequence was the
victim, we did not show the protagonist so we could
not compare our character to other films. During investigating other thriller/crime opening sequences, we did find out that the main character remained anonymous till further on. Also in our focus group they did also say that it was not necessary to reveal the protagonist and keeping it hidden created more mystery.
The victim of our film is a woman, in a crime/thriller
film this is very conventional and stereotypical but
relating it to real life matters it is more woman than men who are targeted for murder, kidnapping or rape. Also, these type of films almost always appeal to men, so having female characters such as the victim, may attract just as much woman as men.
