Courtyard Reflection
For the last two months in this class we have done sketches and a scale
model of the Courtyard of the White Plains High School. We learned how to
properly use a ruler and a T-square. Then we drew multiple a couple of sketches of
the courtyard which were a plant sketch, design, sketch, a courtyard sketch, and
our original design. We drew sketches with the 1/8 scale of the ruler.
Eventually when we were done we started to work on our scale model. We
brought in our own materials to work on our project. We brought Popsicle, model
grass, and model trees. We used the blueprints we made to help us build our upper
and bottom half of the courtyard. Eventually Mr.Molefta let us work with a
partner. So I worked with Noah Kramer. First we cut out symmetrical pieces of
foam board for the upper and lower half of the courtyard. First we had to draw the
design on the foam board. Once we were done with that we cut pieces of green
paper to be like grass to fit in the parts were the grass is supposed to go. Once that
was completed we had to make trees which took a long time since most of the
material was gone. Then we had to make benches and picnic tables made out of
Popsicle sticks. Eventually we had to use foam board for stairs and walls which
was the last two weeks of the project. It took a long time due to finding the
measurements of the areas that need foam board.
I learned from this courtyard project how to use a ruler with all its
measurements including the 1/8 and scales. We learned how to properly sketch
scale sized blueprints by using rulers and T-squares. What I couldve done
properly is to bring in materials that looked more material that looked more
realistic then just the green paper for grass. Also, we shouldve brought in green
cotton balls for the leaves for the trees. Noah Kramer and Me decided to use his
blueprint because mine was way more complicated than Noahs. So we both
agreed to use Noahs Blueprint. Its important to know how to use different scales
because you need to make blueprints with the proper scale.
In Conclusion, for the last two months we worked on blueprints and scale
model courtyards in Architecture. We worked hard to perfect our project. This Is
what I learned in Architecture this year.
