Title: 3-13: See Tens in Teens

Class: Gibbons - K
Objective: The student will represent teen numbers with a ten group and ones.
Common Core: CC.K.CC.5, CC.K.NBT.1
Materials:
-

Small blue cubes


Foam numbers
Math mats
Pg. 129 & 130

Intro: go over what the teen numbers are - everybody say them together. Flash count?
Sequence of instruction:

Prompt students to build the number 16


o See who does a ten group
When everyone has finished, ask to make a 10 group if they havent yet.
10 ones and 6 ones, ten plus six, sixteen
Show a 10 finger freeze and then 6
Repeat with different teen numbers
If time, or after the class comes back, do worksheet page 129 & 130

Differentiation:
Simplification: have the teen number broken down into the ten group and ones to help students
know how many manipulatives need to be in each group
Extension: have students build teen numbers using 5 groups
Evaluation: Formative assessment teachers will observe student work throughout the lesson.
