Coursework: Urban Social Control in a Comparative Perspective
Research:
Playgrounds, Parenting, and Politics
Comparative, observational study on the parenting styles of adults accompanying their
children to neighborhood parks. I generated evidence that the playground in a park
reveals clues to the general parenting style in the area. I concluded that playgrounds also
reveal parenting styles encouraged by the city through social controls in the built
environment and the authority lent to the adults in the park through public infrastructure.
