Radiology

What is a Radiologist?
A radiologist is a physician who understands and examines
medical imaging to look for abnormalities in bones,
tissues, and organs.

Medical imaging includes a variety of procedures such as:


Ultrasounds
Computerized tornography (CT scan)
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
Positron emission tornography (PET)
Nuclear imaging

Salary
The average salary for a radiologist is around
$350,000 but varies depending on experience
level and seniority

A radiologists salary can reach upwards of


$400,000!

Education
First a bachelors degree in required, a specific major is not
required but prerequisites in math, biology, inorganic and
organic chemistry, physics, and humanities are needed.

The next step is to attend medical school, very high


grades must be maintained as radiology is becoming more
popular it is a competitive environment.

To begin a career as a radiologist, during the final year of


medical school one should apply for a 4 year diagnostic
radiology residency program.

From there one can get a job working in either general


radiology, or as a specialist.

Characteristics of a
Radiologist
Detail oriented a radiologist must be able to
notice very small details and slight changes
when it comes to examining images.

Communication a radiologist must be able to


clearly and precisely communicate results to
patients and instructions to technicians.

Flexible when a radiologist is first starting out


it often means long hours and night shifts, with
more experience comes better hours.

Interests
What kind of interests lead to wanting a career in
radiology?

Love for biology


An interest in science and medical technology
A need to help people radiology can save lives!
Tumours when caught early have a much higher
rate of survival.
