Physics 31 1st Problem Set

Instruction: Write your answers in a blue book. Answer each question clearly and completely.
Show your solutions.
1. What does a car speedometer measure? Instantaneous speed, average speed,
instantaneous velocity, average velocity? Explain
2. If an object has greater speed than a second object, does the first object necessarily
have greater acceleration? Explain
3. Under what condition is average velocity equal to instantaneous velocity?
4. Can you have zero displacement and a nonzero average velocity? Explain or give an
example.
5. A falling stone takes 0.31 seconds to travel past a window 2.2 m tall (refer to the figure
below). From what height above the top of the window did the stone fall?
