This document provides instructions for Physics 31 Problem Set 1. Students are to submit their answers, written in a blue book, by Thursday, August 13, 2015. The problem set contains 5 questions about concepts like speed, velocity, acceleration, displacement and calculating height from given time and distance information. Students are asked to clearly show their solutions and explanations for full credit.

Deadline for submission: Thursday, August 13, 2015 (Class hours)
Instruction: Write your answers in a blue book. Answer each question clearly and completely. Show your solutions. 1. What does a car speedometer measure? Instantaneous speed, average speed, instantaneous velocity, average velocity? Explain 2. If an object has greater speed than a second object, does the first object necessarily have greater acceleration? Explain 3. Under what condition is average velocity equal to instantaneous velocity? 4. Can you have zero displacement and a nonzero average velocity? Explain or give an example. 5. A falling stone takes 0.31 seconds to travel past a window 2.2 m tall (refer to the figure below). From what height above the top of the window did the stone fall?
