Case Study

Caucasian Female - 30 years old


Medical History:
- Had cancer on her tongue but was removed & put back together
- Had full mouth tooth extraction in order to receive therapy in her mouth
- radiation completed on 3/6/15
- lasted 6 weeks
- Lymphedema on side of neck
- Type 2 Diabetic
- Trigeminal Neuralgia
Complaining of:
-Pain in neck for over 1 year
-feels like her jaw is ripping apart
-phantom pain where her teeth used to be
- long time headaches (lasts 3-4 days at a time)
- constant pain since July 2015
- progressively getting worse
- all over head and goes down into the neck
- no feeling at all on right side of mouth (numb & tingly)
- pain on right side when swallowing because of radiation blisters
- has no saliva in her mouth
- trigger points in muscle are tightened

Treatment: Need to stop pain sensation, need to create new pathway for fluid,
one branch of trigeminal nerve is irritated causing pain
-Can prescribe medications to stop long term headaches
-Norco
-Tramidal
-Massages to move fluid around
-Surgery
-Find styloid process, tap with needle & walk off
-pulsed radio frequency treatment
