Mariza Villalpando, Senior

Family Career and

Community Leaders of
America recently traveled
to Altus for many events.
They competed in the
STAR events while there.
The STAR events are
a competition for FCCLA
members to test their abilities in knowledge and
craftsmanship.
Josh Zapien, jr., and
Nieva Long, fr., competed in Recycle Redesign.
Zapien won second place
and Long won first place.
Emily Perez, so.,

Earlier FCCLA members traveled to Altus to
attend their annual distinct
conference. At the conferences students from all
over Oklahoma participated in leadership exercises
and games.
FCCLA has taught
me how to be a leader. I
learned that somebody
needs to step up to the
plate and help the community in any way that they
can, said Maegyn Grubbs,
jr., president.
The local chapter continues to be the largest chapter in western Oklahoma.
They have over 90 members. who are involved
with the organization.

Student Council is in
the giving spirit. This past
month students started
their annual food drive for
the local battered womens
shelter. They would later
partner up with Key Club
to volunteer at the Regional Food Bank in Oklahoma
City.
While at the food bank,
members packaged food
all day. The food that they
package would be delivered to families all over
Oklahoma. The Food Bank
provides enough food to
feed more than 116,000
hungry Oklahomans every
week, 37 percent of which
are children.
It was a lot of hard
work, but its very rewarding in the end. There are

kids that rely on the food

supplied by the food bank
on a day-to-day basis. It
doesnt get better than
helping kids get a nutritious meal everyday, said
Nathan Davis, jr.
Recently Weatherford
has opened up a Regional
Food Bank.

Christmas
Connection
Carly Youngberg, Senior

As
Christmas
approaches, Student Council
has decided to continue
their annual tradition of
giving back by volunteering at Christmas Connection this Friday and Saturday, December 11 and 12.
For over 10 years, StuCo has been dedicated to
making childrens Christmas wishes come true by
donating presents as well
as time.

Christmas Connection
provides families with
much needed toys, gifts
and presents for the Christmas season. The toys are
donated by members of the
community, local churches, and many other organizations including Stu-Co.
Christmas Connection
takes place at the Custer
County Fairgrounds. Volunteers come here to help
with the distribution of the
toys.
I really enjoy Christmas Connection because it
gives me an opportunity to
give back to the community, said Logan Moser, sr.,
student council president.
Last year Stu-Co had 13
volunteers who purchased
gifts, helped with clients,
and unloaded boxes of
presents. This year will be
no exception.
