The Justine LeBaron Young Artists Competition, April 16, 2016

Competition Rules 1. Applicants must be instrumentalists or pianists, up to age 22, and residing in Pinellas, Hillsborough or Pasco County. 2. Applicants must submit an application form by mail, together with a nonrefundable $35 application fee, to be postmarked no later than March 19, 2016. Early applications, postmarked by February 20, will only require a $25 application fee. 3. The competition will be held at the Gibbs Campus (5th Avenue) of St. Petersburg College on April 16, 2016. The selection to be performed shall not exceed 20 minutes, and must be the selection the student intends to perform. Participants must provide their own accompanist (if applicable) and two copies of the piano score for the judges. There will be a Senior and a Junior Division, each with two categories, Piano and Instrumental. Senior Division (15 to 22 years old) selections will be a single movement of an orchestral concerto with readily available orchestral score and parts. Junior Division (under 15) selections may be any classical solo of the applicants choice. 4. All contestants will be recognized and receive certificates of participation at the public afternoon ceremony and recital in the Music Center auditorium. First, second and third place winners will receive special recognition. All judges' decisions will be final. Winners from each category will subsequently perform their selections. 5. Judges will choose a Grand Prize winner from senior division winners (piano and instrumental). The Grand Prize winner will perform their concerto movement at a concert of The Florida Orchestra. Winners will be required to attend any necessary rehearsals prior to the concert performance. 6. A student of a judge may participate providing said judge recuses him/herself from judging said student. 7. Application and interpretation of the above rules shall be at the sole discretion of the Competition organizers. N.B. if, in the sole opinion of the judges, the quality of performance in any category is not at a sufficiently high level, they may decide to refrain from awarding all places.
