Amidah Prayers
I gratefully thank You, O living and eternal King, for You have returned my soul within me with compassion
Abundant is Your faithfulness!
The SHEMA
Hebrew Prayer adapted from Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Lev 19:18, Luke 10:27
Sh'ma Yisrael; Adonai (Yahweh) Eh-lo-hay-noo; Adonai (Yahweh) eh-chad.
Ba-rooch shem k'vode; Mahl-choo-too; L'oh-lahm vah'ed.
Hear O Israel, The LORD (Yahweh) is our God (Elohim), The LORD (Yahweh) alone. Blessed be the exalted Name
of His Kingdom forever and ever. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with
all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently
to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down,
and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your
eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. (and) . . . you shall love your
neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.
The AMIDAH
Lord, open my lips and my mouth will declare Your praise . . .
1. AVOT the Fathers
Blessed are you, O Lord our God and God of our
fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and
the God of Jacob, the great, mighty and revered God,
the Most High God who bestows loving kindnesses,
the creator of all things, who remembers the good
deeds of the patriarchs and in love will bring a
redeemer to their children's children for his name's
sake. O king, helper, savior and shield. Blessed are
you, O Lord, the shield of Abraham.
2. GEVUROT the Powers of God
You, O Lord, are mighty forever, you revive the dead,
you have the power to save. [From the end of Sukkot
until the eve of Passover, insert: You cause the wind
to blow and the rain to fall.] You sustain the living with
loving kindness, you revive the dead with great
mercy, you support the falling, heal the sick, set free
the bound and keep faith with those who sleep in the
dust. Who is like you, O doer of mighty acts? Who
resembles you, a king who puts to death and restores
to life, and causes salvation to flourish? And you are
certain to revive the dead. Blessed are you, O Lord,
who revives the dead.
3. KEDUSHAT HASHEM the Holiness of God
You are holy, and your name is holy, and holy beings
praise you daily. Blessed are you, O Lord, the holy
God.
4. BINAH Restore Knowledge
You favor men with knowledge, and teach mortals
understanding. O favor us with the knowledge, the
understanding and the insight that comes from you.
Blessed are you, O Lord, the gracious giver of
knowledge.
