    Week 19

    Another week has come and gone! Time is flying and the students are
    flourishing! This week our two Super Heroes were Ave Maria and Max.
    Ave Maria read us a Dora book and Max read a Paw Patrol book. The
    class loves to hear their friends read to them. The children are doing
    an incredible job sharing a story with such a large crowd! Love, love
    love!!!

    Language: This week we celebrated International Opposite Day. We


    had fun exploring opposites throughout the day. Our Writers
    Workshop this week was _______ is the opposite of _______. The
    picture side of the writers workshop is improving for many of our
    friends! Keep it up! We also looked at new sight words this week: and,
    are, can, for, go. We review these sight words as much as possible.
    Also, the children continue to enjoy reviewing these sight words
    through Heidi Songsso much fun!!!
    We continued our discussion of The Mitten. This week we read
    another version of the story by Jim Aylesworth. We used a Venn
    diagram to compare the characters between the two stories.

    We began round two of alphabet practice. We concentrated on Letters


    Aa and Bb.
    Phys. Ed: On Wednesday we finished up our skill building of passing
    and catching. We will begin to focus on basic gymnastic skills such as
    balancing and proper landings. Gymnastics is hoped to begin next week.
    Mrs. Williams also discussed healthy choices during Power to Play. The
    Great Food experiment is a great way for students to try something
    they otherwise may not! I think even some of us adults get into a rut of
    not wanting to try something new! Lets encourage this generation to
    be brave and inquisitive!
    Art: This week we read the story The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack
    Keats. We created fake snow and the children showed us their
    interpretation of the story by making prints on their own pages!
    Science: We had fun this week painting with ice cubes with food
    colouring in them. Students saw what would happen when they painted
    with a coloured cubeit was messy and fun, though the colours on the
    paper were not very rich. We figured out the colours were being
    watered down by the melting ice. We also saw what happened when we
    mixed equal parts of flour, salt and water.you get fake snow (once
    dried)! Winter Blast was a hit! We went outside and sprayed snow
    with water and food colouring and enjoyed our outdoors. We played a
    variety of indoor games as well. The Ice Cube Melting Game was a hit!
    Try it at home with your child.
    Math: This week we focused on triangles, octagons and ovals! The
    students are doing great with our 2-D shapes unit thus far. Encourage
    them to point out shapes they see at home or when out and about!

    Religion: We began a focus on parables this week. We discussed that


    parables are stories from the bible that help to teach the rest of us a
    lesson.
    We had our gorgeous baby Evelyn return to our class for a Roots of
    Empathy visit! The focus this visit was on the contents of her mommys
    diaper bag. Students discussed the things that were necessary to
    carry around regularly when youre a parent. Its a heavy load!!!

    Feb 2nd Ground Hog Day
    Feb 4th - Parent/Teacher Interviews 4-8
    Feb 5th- 100th day of school!
    (February is a very busy month!!!!!!)
