Gold cyanidation is a process invented in 1887 that extracts gold from ore by dissolving it in a cyanide solution to form a complex ion that is then separated and precipitated with zinc dust, allowing the gold to be recovered. It involves contacting ground ore with cyanide solution, separating solids from the clear liquid, and recovering gold from the solution through precipitation. The chemical reaction involves gold, cyanide, oxygen, and water producing gold cyanide and hydroxide.

WHAT IS GOLD CYANIDATION?
Gold cyanidation is process in which the gold or silver is extracted
from their ores by dissolving the gold or silver into a water soluble metal complex. Invented in 1887 by Scottish chemists John S. MacArthur, Robert W. Forrest, and William Forrest. Three step method: 1. Contacting the ground ore with the cyanide solution. 2. Separating the solids from the clear solution. 3. Recovering the metals from the solution by precipitation with zinc dust. Most commonly used process for gold extraction
The chemical Equation for Gold cyanidation is a synthesis reaction:
4 Au + 8 CN- + O2 + 2 H2O 4 Au(CN)2 + 4 OH
The Word Equation is:
Gold + Cyanide + Oxygen + Water Gold Cyanide +
Hydroxide This equation is also known as the Elsner equation.
