GPS PILOT with S3 Terminal.

The GPS PILOT S3 for automatic steering has an 8.4"
colour display and touchscreen user interface. Four different
views guarantee a perfect overview and facilitate the job in
hand. Speed and position data via RS232 connection, and
data exchange and program updates via USB ensure
maximum performance and convenience.
The 1 GB internal memory is sufficiently large for the
applications at hand, and allows jobs to be sorted by field,
farm, driver, and machine within the integrated job
management.

16

The interface between GPS PILOT and AGROCOM NET

and AGROCOM MAP the CLAAS farm management
software ensures recorded tramlines, reference lines and
job-related information can be used and managed. This
allows ongoing use and management of all gathered data
for many years.

GPS PILOT S3.

Precision all along the line.

Convincing arguments
1 High-resolution touchscreen display: the large colour
display is very user-friendly and provides a whole range
of functions.
2 USB-2.0 port: the USB interface can be used to transfer
jobs/reference lines stored in the internal memory.
3 View mode: you can simply switch between machine
view and field view. You have the best overview at all
times and can maximise your efficiency.

4 Settings menu: provides simple access to basic settings

(working width, overlapping, job creation and job
management).
5 Zoom function: user-specific adjustment of the driving
view.
6 Working menu: no need to scroll through the menu.
Direct access to start/stop function, drop markers when
working the field, change driving mode.
7 AUTO TURN: automatic turning at the headland makes
it easy to line up with the selected track with maximum
accuracy.

GPS PILOT S3

17

GPS PILOT S3.

Better than ever.

AUTO TURN.
With AUTO TURN, accurate parallel tracking after automatic
turning at the headland is no problem at all. This optional
function prevents the inaccuracies (overlapping, untreated
areas, large curves) which occur when manually lining up
the machine with the next parallel track. Precision from the
very first metre ensures that crooked crop rows postemergence are a thing of the past. AUTO TURN also
enables the operator to concentrate on controlling and
monitoring the attached implement and to establish blocks
automatically. Just set the number of tracks to be skipped
and the machine lines up perfectly. Turning becomes
significantly easier even in difficult conditions such as
working at night or in fog or dust.

18

SECTION VIEW.
No more unwanted overlapping when spraying or applying
fertiliser. SECTION VIEW displays the sections that need to
be switched off. The width of up to 10 sections can be
freely defined, depending on your implement. The degree of
overlap can also be adjusted when the display is operating.

Benefits:
Sections to be deactivated are displayed
No unnecessary overlapping
Cost savings

GPS PILOT S3

19

The right speed for every application.

Benefits:

With the CLAAS GPS PILOT S3 you can access a range of

speeds which meets every field work requirement (25 km/h
to 400 m/h).

High accuracy at all times and at all speeds

400 m/h to 25 km/h
Ideal for farms growing specialised crops

Ideal for all types of work, from rotary cultivation tasks which
move a lot of soil to planting, the GPS PILOT S3 provides a
virtual string which ensures that your rows are completely
straight.
When working with modern seed drills, speeds of up to 20
km/h are the norm. Even at these speeds, the GPS PILOT
S3 guides the tractor and implement across the field in a
perfectly straight line while maintaining the required
accuracy.

20

GPS PILOT S3.

Even greater accuracy,
even easier to use.

Data transfer between machine and office.

The amount of documentation required is making the
paperwork more and more time-consuming. Withthe
CLAAS GPS PILOT S3 and the AGROCOM NET and
AGROCOM MAPfarm management softwareyou can
reduce this work to a few mouse clicks.
The data recorded in the field (field boundary, reference
track, time, return points, job information: field name, driver,
machine, implement) can be exported from the terminal
onto a USB stick and then imported into the software.
It is just as easy to prepare the work to be done in the
software then export it to the GPS PILOT S3 terminal.
Would you like to inform other machines about a reference
line for parallel tracking in a particular field? You can do this
easily by exporting and importing the data using a USB
stick.

GPS PILOT S3

21

GPS PILOT S3.

Components.

Description of the components.

1 GPS PILOT receiver: this high-precision receiver
transfers the GPS position data to the terminal.
2 GPS PILOT terminal: the GPS PILOT terminal calculates
the exact passes from the DGPS position data received,
taking account of working width.
3 Navigation computer: the navigation computer with its
6-axis gyro provides maximum compensation for sideto-side movements, pitch and yaw.
4 Steering technology: the proportional steering valve and
wheel angle sensor are responsible for making accurate
steering movements.

22

Universal use.
The GPS PILOT S3 is a steering system for all makes of
machine and can be used with all machine types, including
tractors, combine harvesters and forage harvesters.
Depending on the application or machine, you can decide
whether to use hydraulic steering or an electrically powered
steering wheel.
With GPS PILOT S3 you can equip your entire machinery
fleet with an automatic steering system, regardless of
manufacturer.

GPS PILOT S3

23

Highly versatile.
In addition to hydraulic steering, the GPS PILOT S3 can also
be used with an automatic steering wheel, the GPS PILOT
FLEX. This steering wheel gives highly accurate steering
performance. The great advantage of the GPS PILOT FLEX
is its versatility. It is easily transfered between machines
which are only used on a seasonal basis such as combine
harvesters and forage harvesters; as a result, RTKaccuracy
can be available on the tractor for drilling. It is also designed
to allow the steering wheel solution to be installed on older
CLAAS machines or machines from other manufacturers. A
number of options are available. You can use existingGPS
PILOT S3 equipment on the individual machines and just
change the steering wheel, or you can move the whole
system between machines.

24

Naturally, all the well-known features of theGPS PILOT S3

such asAUTO TURN, SECTION VIEW, job
management, etc. are still available, as are the different
driving and steering modes.

Multiple selling points:

No need to touch the hydraulics
Steering system can easily be moved between different
machines
Accuracy is comparable with that of hydraulically steered
machines

GPS PILOT CEBIS MOBILE.

Unrivalled convenience.

GPS PILOT with CEBIS MOBILE terminal.

GPS PILOT uses the multifunctional colour CEBIS MOBILE
display.
The terminal has a 6.4" colour display, the same operating
structure as the well-known CEBIS on board, and serves as
an additional terminal for process optimisation.
GPS PILOT and, for example, CEMOS, can run
simultaneously on the CEBIS MOBILE terminal, and the
desired application can be displayed at any time.

26

CEBIS MOBILE is not only deployable on the LEXION at

harvest time, but can of course also be subsequently used
for GPS steering on the tractor.
The fully ISOBUS-compatible terminal can additionally be
used for controlling attached implements and for displaying
other functions such as variable application (VA).

Convincing arguments
1 High-resolution display: the 6.4" colour display is very
user-friendly and provides a whole range of functions.

5 View mode: you can simply switch between navigation

view and field view.
6 Status display: all key information such as satellite
reception, active alarms and selected driving mode.

GPS PILOT
CEBIS MOBILE

27

One terminal, many uses.

Whether you use the CEBIS MOBILEfor the GPS PILOTon
a CLAAS harvester or a CLAAS tractor, you can always
choose from a broad range of additional applications.
If you use the CEBIS MOBILE on a tractor, you can connect
an ISOBUS-compatible implement to the terminal and
control it from the same terminal that you use for GPS
control.
Utilise your full yield potential by employing the CROP
SENSOR to optimise N fertiliser application. You can also
combine it directly with variable rate application (VRA) for
precision farming work.

28

If you don't need the terminal on the tractor at harvest time,

you can transfer the GPS components to your LEXION or
JAGUAR, enabling you to continue using the GPS PILOT.
On the LEXION you can also make use of the CEMOS and
optional CEMOS AUTOMATIC functions. CEMOS
AUTOMATIC continuously adjusts residual grain separation
and cleaning and thereby permanently optimises the
machine for the prevailing harvesting conditions. As a result,
the machine is able to automatically deliver maximum
throughput while maintaining the highest standards of grain
and sample quality and keeping fuel consumption to a
minimum.

29

The various driving modes

automatic steering at a glance.

A-B mode.
The first pass is defined by setting the
points A + B. All other passes are
made at a constant distance defined
by the set working width from the
first pass. This means the field can be
divided into blocks and worked
through block by block.

30

Contour mode.1
The contour guidance function is
normally used for headland turning or
for tracking slightly curved field
boundaries.

A-B contour mode.

The A-B contour driving mode can be
used, for example, to log a reference
line on a slightly curved field boundary.
The other passes are calculated by the
parallel shifting of the reference line as
defined by the set working width. This
means the field can be divided
intoblocks and worked through in any
order of preference.

1
2

Circle mode.2
The circular tracking mode is used for
working in a circular pattern. You can
set the first circular track and then
work either side of it. All other passes
are made at a constant distance
defined by the set working width
from the first track.

Accuracy and speed are restricted with CEBIS MOBILE

Only available with GPS PILOT S3

A+ angle mode
(reference track transfer).
This driving mode allows tracking
adjustment of several machines
working in parallel. After the A point
has been set, the B point is
determined by the position angle of
another machine and the reference
track is correspondingly aligned.

EGNOS.

Licence-free correction signal.

EGNOS (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay
Service) is available to users free of licence fees in many
parts of Europe. It supplements GPS and uses 34 ground
stations to generate the correction signal.
EGNOS is available for all machines. With an accuracy of
+/ 15 to 30cm 1, it is ideal for many crop spraying,
fertilising and soil cultivation applications.

34

see page 51

E-DIF.

Available worldwide.
E-DIF is an algorithmic calculation of the correction signals
using only the GPS data. During the ten-minute initialisation
period it calculates how the current satellite constellation will
change over the next few hours. The signal is available
worldwide.
It must be receiving at least 4 satellites in order to work.
This signal then provides the same accuracy as EGNOS
(+/ 15 to 30 cm 1) and is therefore ideal for crop spraying,
fertiliserspreading and tillage applications. When working in
the field, it is only possible to drive from pass to pass; E-DIF
cannot be used to establish blocks.
If you have opted for the GPS PILOT with S3 or CEBIS
MOBILE terminal with EGNOS, for example, you can
upgrade your system at any time to a higher level of
accuracy such as BASELINE HD. You then have a mobile
reference station which can supply your machine fleet with
the licence-free correction signal within a radius of up to
5km. See page 37 for more details.

35

OMNISTAR
HP / XP / G2.

Unlimited working radius.

OMNISTAR HP / XP / G2 operates in much the same way
as EGNOS. However, this system is equipped with a dualfrequency GPS receiver, enabling it to achieve a far higher
level of GPS accuracy. With 70 reference stations, it
provides a continuously available correction signal service,
subject to a subscription. The correction signal receiver is
particularly quick to respond and achieves an accuracy of
+/ 512 cm 1.

1 The machine receives signals transmitted by GPS

satellites.
2 The machine additionally receives a high-precision
correction signal (D-GPS) transmitted by a geostationary
satellite.
3 The GPS PILOT converts both signals into steering
signals.

Tractors from CLAAS and other manufacturers can easily be

retrofitted with OMNISTAR. The system is suitable for a wide
range of agricultural applications.
OMNISTAR HP can easily be extended to include, for
example, RTK (Real Time Kinematic). RTK gives you dualfrequency receiver technology and high-precision
performance with an accuracy of +/ 2 to 3 cm. See page
38 for more details.

see page 51

36

OMNISTAR is installed on the machine only. There is no

need for a reference station.

BASELINE HD.

1 The machine and BASELINE HD receive signals

transmitted by GPS satellites.
2 The machine additionally receives a high-precision
correction signal (D-GPS) transmitted by the mobile
reference station via a radio signal.
3 The GPS PILOT converts both signals into steering
signals.

Mobile reference station.

BASELINE HD is a reference station designed for mobile
use. The system is unique on the GPS market and works to
an accuracy of within 4 to6 cm 1.
BASELINE HD provides a proprietary correction signal at no
extra cost. Another benefit is the fast start-up time. The
signal can be used by numerous other machines.
The integrated rechargeable battery lasts a full working day
and is designed for long hours of work.

BASELINE HD components.
The mobile reference station comprises:
GPS receiver and GPS antenna
Radio and radio antenna
Battery
All components are integrated in the device.

RTK.

Stationary reference station.

RTK is the right technology when every centimetre counts,
e.g. for sowing or harvesting. The reference station is
stationary and comes equipped with dual-frequency
reception technology. It sends the correction signal to any
number of machines operating with fully automated GPS
steering systems within a radius of up to 15 km. All these
machines then simultaneously achieve a high level of
working precision.

1 The machine and the stationary reference station receive

signals transmitted by GPS satellites.
2 The machine additionally receives a high-precision
correction signal (D-GPS) transmitted by the reference
station via radio signal.
3 The GPS PILOT converts both signals into steering
signals.

Best-in-class system providing many

benefits.

Highest possible repeatable accuracy

Fastest signal availability
Maximum efficiency
Superior operating comfort and convenience
Lower operating costs in the long term
Perfect for entire fleets
Accuracy of 2 to 3 cm 1

see page 51

38

The stationary RTK system comprises a control cabinet

with receiver, power supply unit and radio. A GPS and a
radio antenna are located in an elevated position, e.g.
on a silo.

RTK NET.

1 The machine and the RTK network receive signals

transmitted by GPS satellites.
2 The central server calculates a correction signal from
networked reference stations.
3 The machine receives the high-precision RTK correction
signal via the mobile phone network.
4 The GPS PILOT converts both signals into steering
signals.

Working independently.
RTK NET extends the product range for regions where there
is no access to a base station. The correction signals are
sent via the mobile phone network. RTK NET is not
constrained by a specific radius and is therefore the ideal
solution for contractors and farms seeking to work with the
highest repeatable precision. Like RTK, RTK NET uses dualfrequency technology 2-Frequenz-Technologie.The system
features a very quick signal availability (initialisation) and a
highest repeatable accuracy of+/-23 cm 1.

Working benefits.

CAM PILOT.
Looking ahead.

The CLAAS CAM PILOT helps you harvest

with fewer losses.
The CLAAS CAM PILOT assumes the task of steering the
new JAGUAR when the PICK UP is fitted, which means that
working speeds of up to 15 km/h can be achieved without
fatigue. What's more, the operator can focus more fully on
filling up the trailer without crop losses. The CAM PILOT
detects the swaths in three dimensions and this is
automatically translated into the appropriate steering input.
The CAM PILOT is also activated in the usual way by using
the speed control lever, and is deactivated again whenever
the steering wheel is turned.

43

LASER PILOT.
Dont waste a single centimetre.

More performance and less strain.

Automatic steering in grain crops significantly reduces the
strain on the driver. This is especially true when using large
cutterbars and operating at high speeds or in poor visibility.
A maintenance-free sensor continuously transmits invisible
light signals and moves horizontally at an angle of 6. The
standing crop and the stubble reflect the light beam. A
second sensor measures the travel time of the reflected light
signals and thereby determines the exact position of the
edge between the cut and uncut crop. The machine is
automatically guided along this crop edge with a precision
of 10 to 20 cm. LASER PILOT also achieves a high
functional reliability in the case of laid grain and when
working on slopes.

44

Your benefits at a glance.

Maintaining the optimum position.

The AUTO PILOT system for combine harvesters and forage
harvesters was the first steering system CLAAS launched
on the market in 1977. The system has proven its
effectiveness thousands of times over. The AUTO PILOT
technology has undergone a continuous process of
development and refinement throughout which numerous
patents have been filed.
Two mechanical touch sensors determine the position of the
machine, send signals to the steering unit and automatically
steer the machine through the crop. Maintaining the
optimum position in all working conditions is the key to
enhanced performance and higher efficiency.

Please note that some variants are not available in every country. Please
contact your distributor for further information.
EGNOS is a service available free of charge in Europe. WAAS is a
comparable service for North America. Please note that both systems may
produce a shift in passes over time (satellite drift). These systems are not
suitable for use in machine fleets (e.g. combine harvesting), or drilling
operations.
The accuracy data given relates to the accuracy of the GPS receiver on the
machine under perfect conditions. All data is given as maximum values. A
distinction is made between pass-to-pass accuracy and absolute accuracy.
Pass-to-pass accuracy defines the accuracy of the subsequent pass in 95%
of cases within 15 min of the reference track. Absolute accuracy defines at
what level of accuracy a certain position can be found at a later time. The
actual accuracy of the overall system can deviate from the abovementioned
accuracy data. It depends on various influential factors such as vehicle
factors (wheelbase, ballasting, calibration, etc.), attached implements (drift,
configuration, attached front implements, etc.), and field and soil conditions.

CLAAS assumes no liability for circumstances or events beyond its control.

These may include, for example, disturbances in the atmosphere/
troposphere/ionosphere, breakdowns/disruptions or insufficient availability
and shutdowns of satellites within global navigation satellite systems (GPS,
GLONASS, GALILEO) and their ground reference stations as well as satellites
belonging to correction service providers (EGNOS, OMNISTAR, etc.).
E-DIF is patented correction algorithm which uses only standard GPS
satellites to calculate a correction factor. E-DIF is therefore available
worldwide as an alternative correction system in the basic accuracy segment
and, within a few minutes, its accuracy is comparable with that of SBAS
services (EGNOS, WAAS, etc.) for pass-to-pass applications. Therefore
E-DIF should only be used for pass-to-pass tracking. E-DIF is completely
unsuitable for driving in blocks or for use in controlled traffic applications or
machine fleets (e.g. combine harvesting). It is also impossible to record
points for absolute positioning. Shifts in tracks (satellite drift) due to long
interruptions in work can be corrected using an update function (setting a
reference point).

The pricing of the respective services depends upon region and the
respective provider.
In the case of correction data services transmitted via mobile phone
networks, use is dependent on the coverage of the respectively used
network provider.
