TITLE : ONE WAY SINGLE POLE SWITCH CONTROL

OBJECTIVE : To Learn function of one way switch to control two lamps.

Switch S1 controls Lamp 1 (L1) and Lamp 2 (L2)

To doing the wiring for 2 lamps that is controlled by a one way switch.

To know how to sketch the wiring and schematic diagrams

To find out and choose the suitable cable size and wiring clip to do the
wiring

To know how to use the suitable devices to do the wiring work.

To find out, operate and joint the wiring component using the right steps.

To install protection devices for lamps circuit and power.

To doing the pole test for the wiring work that already done.

Equipment : three circular wood, two ceiling rose, one distribution fuse board, one
way, Switch, two filament lamp, PVC single core, screw, wiring clip

Diagram :
Procedure :
1. Go to the service panel and turn off power to the circuit you
will be working on. If there is already a switch with one light
installed, return to the switch and remove the cover. Check all
wires for current with your voltage tester. If there is only one
black wire connected to the switch, follow the instructions in
step two. If there is more than one black wire connected to the
switch, follow the instructions in step three.

2. The power supply connects to the first light: Connect the white
wire from the power supply to the white wire from the light.
Connect the black wire from the power supply to the white
wire of the cable connected to the switch. Wrap a piece of
black electrical tape around each end of this white wire to
indicate that it is a hot wire rather than a neutral wire. Run your
cable from the first light to the second light. Connect the black
wire from the switch to the black wire from the first light and
the black wire coming from the second light. Attach the white
from the second light to the white from the power supply.

3. The power supply connects to the switch: Connect the black

wire from the power supply to the switch and the white wire
from the power supply to the white wire of the cable connected
to the first light. Connect the black wire from the first light to
the switch. Run your cable from the first light to the second
light and connect black to black and white to white.

4. Connect all bare or green wires together and to the boxes if

they are metal. Any green screws on the switch or lights should
also be connected to the bare wires. Screw insulated connectors
over all wire connections

Discussion : A single-pole switch is a one-blade, on-and-off switch that may

be installed singly or in multiples of two or more in the same metal
box. In wiring a single-pole switch, a general rule is a neutral
conductor (white wire) should not be switched or used as one leg
in a switch loop. This rule is easily followed in conduit systems but
does not apply to armored and non metallic sheathed cable

Conclusion : This would obviously be the 'ON' position. When the insulated
lever is moved down to the 'OFF' position, it pushes the metal strip
away to breaking the circuit and turning the light 'OFF'.This type
of switch (having a lever which "flips" it on and off) is called a
toggle switch.
