What is Political Science?

 Political Science is the study of the state in all its elements, aspects and relationships.

 Political Science is the systematic study of politics “an attempt by systematic analysis to

discover the confusing detail whatever principles may exist of wider and more general

significance”.

 It’s not all about the state, its organ and institutions but also other institution or politics as

well such as political attitudes of people and their leaders.

 The study of controversial issues and other aspects concerning the states operation,

powers and functions.

 According to some political scientist political science extends to “any activity involving

human beings associated together in relationship of power and authority where conflicts

occur. Politics exists everywhere within labor unions, business organizations, consumers,

schools, and even within us.

Importance of Political Science

 It provides special background for those intending to specialize in the social sciences or

in professions like law, education, business, and journalism.

 The study of political science, even only in the Philippine government and politics,
enables every Filipino discharge more intelligently and more efficiently his duties as a

citizen.
 A knowledge of political science local and comparative, constitutes a particularly useful

equipment for the Filipino who desires as he should, to participate effectively and

usefully in our political growth and development.

 Politics is the essence of democracy. People should forget their hatred for politics. No
human being can escape politics. A constitutional democracy cannot continue to exist

without it.
