Dear Friend,
| wish to let you know personally that after consultation with my family, I have made
the very difficult decision to step away from public life for the time being.
T have had an incredibly difficult twelve months fighting to clear my name in the High
Court, the Seanad, ard most importantly, to you. 1 am satisfied that my recent success
in the High Court has now cleared me of any such false allegations, Indeed, the High
Court judgement is overwhelmingly robust in my favour,
However, to my surprise, the Seanad has indicated its intention to appeal the decision
of the High Court to the Supreme Court and this may again involve unwarranted
publicity and further threats to me and my family, I do believe that every citizen has
the right to free speech and fair procedures, however, I was subjected to an hysterical
and vitriolic campaign by the media and others. ‘Therefore, on this occasion, I will not
put my name forward in the forthcoming general election in the best interests of my
family.
I would like to reassure you, that I will continue to support and represent you all in
any way that I can, My unwavering passion and interest will remain,
I have been in the privileged, and indeed honoured, position to dedicate over twenty
years of my life to serving you the public. Iam very pleased to have made a positive
contribution as a Councillor, T.D., Minister and Senator. 1 would like to take this.
‘opportunity to thank everyone for their kindness and support throughout those twenty
years and more particularly in the last twelve months,
wish my colleagues, friends, and you every success, With every good wish, ~
Yours sincerely,
Dw C
