PRESENTATION

ON VARIOUS
TYPES OF DATA
IN
MICROSOFT EXCEL
MICROSOFT EXCEL

 Microsoft Excel is a commercial

spreadsheet application written and
distributed by Microsoft for Microsoft
Windows and Mac OS X. It features
calculation, graphing tools, pivot tables
and a macro programming language
called Visual Basic for Applications.
VERSION..

 It has been a very widely applied

spreadsheet for these platforms,
especially since version 5 in 1993.
Excel forms part of Microsoft Office.
The current versions are 2010 for
Windows and 2011 for Mac.
SPREADSHEET
 A spreadsheet is the computer equivalent of a
paper ledger sheet. It consists of a grid made
from columns and rows. It is an environment
that can make number manipulation easy and
somewhat painless.
VARIOUS TYPES OF DATA IN
MS.EXCEL

 Microsoft Excel is able to identify the type of

data you key into the worksheet. We don't have
to tell Microsoft Excel what the type of data is,
the data will be differentiated and examined
accordingly. Fundamentally the data consists of
numbers and text, you can enter text as part of
a formula to manage a complicated tabulation
and calculation.
CONT..
There are 4 types of data in Microsoft Excel
are the following:

 Text
 Numbers
 Dates and Times
 Boolean value
TEXT
 The first basic data is Text, which is
alphabetical representation that could includes
descriptions, sentence, and headings. For
example “name”, will be identified in
Microsoft Excel as Text, another example
“class", “abc”, “marks” will also be
distinguished as Text.
NUMBER
 The second basic and common type of data is
Numbers. This type of data consists of
numbers, which could be used to represent
integers, prices, percentage and other numeric
information. For example "123" is numbers,
but "number 123" are considered as Text. Most
tables are consist of numbers, and chart could
only be plotted by numbers. Some of the
numbers could includes comma, decimal points
and maybe represented by currency symbol.
DATES AND TIMES

 The third type of data is Dates and Times, date

example " 14-Mar-01", "Mar 01", "03-14-01"
and "3-14", which could also includes many
other representations. "1:30:55 PM", "13:30",
"1:30 PM", "13:30:55" and "13:30:55 PM" are
some example of times.
BOOLEAN

 Boolean value is the forth type of data, it could

only contains two information, TRUE and
FALSE, it is not a commonly used type of data,
but could be a useful tool when you need to use
it on logical formula.
