There is no stenographic record of the Congress. In the official record of the
Congress Hess is mentioned in only one sentence. ( Association Internationale
des Travailleurs. Compte-rendu du IVe Congrès International tenu à Bâle, en
Septembre 1869. Brussels, 1869, p. 72) The Vorbote IV (1869), 149 is not more
elaborate. It is therefore difficult to establish whether Hess really delivered the
speech as it is drafted in this MS.

annuity of 500 thalers, and that she authorized him to collect this annuity from his
sister Gudula Bendix.
The current account listed in F 10 shows that on February 2, 1852, an amount of
10,000 thalers was transferred from the account of Moses Hess to Gudula Bendix.
At 5 this gives a life annuity of 500 thalers.
