Cape Lab Assignment
Cape Lab Assignment
For the previous assignment submit a report based on the questions at the end of
the tutorial, just copy paste the given code in polymath and execute to generate the
Polymath report.
For the second question leave the “Reactions” block in the browser window blank.
Note
1. Let the total flow rate of ethylene and ethane stream be 100 Kmol/hr, each
50% and chlorine with a flow rate of 100 Kmol/hr.
2. Only reaction no. 1 takes place in the first reactor and reaction with HCl takes
place only in the second reactor. Specify the reactions in the respective
reactor blocks in the browser window. Specify the fractional conversion
there, as given in the question.
3. Operating conditions in the reactor is same as the specifications of the
respective inlet streams.
4. The purge stream is to be separated using Fsplit model, give two outlet
streams, purge and recycle. Give specification for the purge stream,
specification as split fraction and value as 0.01 (given 1 percent).
5. Cooling temperature in the flash separator is to be determined using
sensitivity analysis of the product stream from the separator. Consider
practical feasibility while deciding. Operating pressure of both separators is
95 psia. Deactivate sensitivity analysis after selection of temperature and
run the simulation.
6. In total there are 4 compressors, 5 heaters, 2 mixers, 2 separators, 2 reactors
and 1 Fspliter.
7. Submit report
1. Aspen stream table with 2 feed streams, 1 final product stream, 1
purge stream and 1 recycle stream.
2. Aspen table of results from sensitivity analysis and associated
graph. Do not select the last set of values while plotting graph.
3. Final flowsheet.
4. Generate a report for convergence block. Generate it via
View>Report>Display report for: Convergence>$OLVER01.
