GETTING IN CHARACTER: INTEGRITY Situational Questionnaire


Directions: Read over each situation and write what you would do, how you would feel, and what you think of each situation. Discuss your answers as a group afterwards. 1. You havent finished your homework and during lunch your friend takes out his. He offers to let you copy the answers. Do you? How does integrity fit in?

2. A friend of yours tells you that someone stole a CD of hers recently. A few days later, another friend of yours, who is friends with her as well, shows you a new CD she bought. Sure enough, its your other friends. Do you say anything to your other friend? What do you do?

3. Your parents give you ten dollars for a necessary school item, such as a compass. However, before you get to buy it, you see a comic book on sale for ten dollars which you know is out of print and usually very expensive. What do you do? You need the compass that afternoon.

4. At a store, the cashier gives you five dollars too much in change. Do you return it? Do you keep it?

5. Staying over at a friends for the night, one of your friends takes out a bottle of alcohol. Your friends all want to try some, but you arent sure. Do you drink like they do? Do you refuse to drink even if they drink themselves?

6. Has anyone you know demonstrated a lack of integrity lately? How? How did you feel? What did you do?

7. When is the last time you did something which lacked integrity? How? Would you act differently now? How?

Directions: Fill in answers and opinions to the following questions for each of the scenarios in the video Getting in Character: Integrity. Use the spaces provided and the back of this sheet for answers. 1. When Kelly finds the first wallet, she doesnt show any sign of concern for its owner. In fact, she does a little dance. Would you have done the same? Finding money is something lots of people hope for, so was Kellys response really all that wrong?

2. Stephen owes everyone money, it seems. When Brock first mentions this fact, Stephens response wasnt too reassuring. How should he have responded, assuming he had no money with which to pay?

3. When Kelly found Stephens wallet, did the rest of the group do the right thing by returning it? They could have taken the money he owed them from it, right? What would you have done?

4. Sarahs adopted brother, Glenn, lied to his friend about working so that he might go to the beach with another friend. How else might he have handled the situation? How might he have applied integrity?

5. Denisse turned in Kelly even though it was a difficult decision. What would you have done?

6. If Kelly had confessed to burning the carpet in the first place, she might have gotten in trouble. How did her not confessing end up getting her into even more trouble? What would integrity have been here?

GETTING IN CHARACTER: INTEGRITY Playing The Part


Directions: Here are several scenarios. Assign each student one of the characters from the video and act out the way youd react to each other in the given situation. Enact the scene for the rest of the group. Act each scene out in two different ways. Then discuss your actions. How do different actions affect the outcomes of the scenarios? A. Situation: Kelly finds another wallet while shes with Joey and Stephen, who always needs money. Of course, Stephen and Kelly would just as well split up the cash. How does Joey react and deal with this? Characters: Kelly, Stephen, Joey

B. Situation: Stephen claims to need twenty dollars. Based upon his past record with integrity, how does Brock and Sarah react when he asks them? Characters: Stephen, Brock, Sarah

C. Situation: Glenn asks Sarah to pretend hes not there when his boss calls from work. He tries to get her to do it. How does she react? Is she willing or unwilling? Does she argue over how right or wrong it is? Characters: Sarah, Glenn

D. Situation: Adam is failing a class. He asks Joey for help every so often, but now wants Joey to help him cheat. How does Joey react? Adam is desperate. Characters: Joey, Adam
