Preparing to Write: Forming Sentences
Before we write a short essay, it would be good to practise writing proper sentences. In English, the most basic sentence must contain at least a subject (noun) and a verb. It follows the formula of Subject+Verb. For example, Ali walks. After the verb, an object (noun) or further explanation can be added (e.g adverbs of manner, time and place). For example, Ali walks to school every morning. If the verb to be (is, am, are, was, were) is used, adjectives can be added after it to give further descriptions of the subject (e.g. Ali is handsome). You can combine sentences by using conjunctions such as and, but, or, for, so.
