Posture pick up by ear bones 2. Set up for success conductor is tapping the top of your stand 3. Get FAT with me (breathe in to make yourself fat) 4. If your first step is in the wrong direction. Wheres your 100th step going to be Always see the end goal 5. Sing your life story through your instrument 6. Warm up the paper (whats my motivation) (know something about music / composer before the first note is played) 7. Everything at which you want to succeed in life you must first love. Octavio Paws A face is never really seen until its loved. 8. Dynamics go down, Effort Goes up. / Finesse the soft parts. Does it take more effort or less effort to sneak around your house? (play softly) 9. Hesitation Kills Bands 10. Whats harder? Getting Great or Staying Great (once is luck; twice = broken clock, 3 = skill) 11. Go for the note, then the dynamic 12. Eighth>Quarter>Half>Whole = Bring out the moving parts 13. Bring out the dissonances or it will sound wrong. (a tritone will always sound wrong unless it is confident.) 14. Composers dont write the dynamic you should play, they write the dynamic the audience should hear Size of the band / size of the section 15. It can be great but not worth remembering. 16. Call must equal response. (HI!=HI! Not hi= HI!) 17. Distance = Dynamics; Size = speed. Make sure that what you try to convey is what you convey. 18. >pp or >nente = evanescent == play until you dont know where the silence begins and the sound ends. (Tove for all but flute and tuba) 19. A whole note is the most difficult = there is nowhere to hide. Tone / pitch/dynamics has to be perfect 20. Find your sea of troubles find it in the part you like and bring it out 21. The I love your rule: say it twice? Say it different or youre psycho. 22. Your Dynamic range must mirror your emotional range. (if it doesnt match, we cant tell a story) 23. When you care about the music, technique just happens. Lead a horse to water, you cant make it drink. But you can make it thirsty 24. When we all do one thing better our band gets (X) times better (x=students in the band) 25. I have a good job to do.
