HEMODIALYSIS
Usually, before your first hemodialysis, the patient will have some sort of tubing attached to a large vein to make blood flow from their body to the machine and back more easily. If the patient will be on hemodialysis for a long time, you may have had surgery to create a shunt or a fistula, which makes access to a large vein easier. Fistulas may need as long as 23 months to fully heal before they can be used. They are not used if the treatment is temporary. They are typically created many months before hemodialysis begins. NURSING MANAGEMENT BEFORE HEMODIALYSIS NURSING INTERVENTION 1. WEIGH the patient. RATIONALE 1.The pre dialysis weight is unambiguous and obviously provides the starting point for treatment. A 1kg weight gain equals to 1000ml retained fluid. 2.To know if there are special precautions and necessary interventions to the patient. 3.This will be the baseline data of the patient. For example an increase in the temperature of the patient during hemodialysis will indicate infection which will need prompt intervention. If the client is hypertensive, the client will be advised to with hold the hypertensive medication because the procedure can lower than the blood pressure. 4. In order to guide physician in the treatment, certain laboratory tests are needed at the beginning of the hemodialysis and at regular intervals.
5. Assess patients physical status 5. Often, the client does not fully and prepare the patient mentally for comprehend the impact of dialysis and hemodialysis. learning needs may go unrecognized. Good communication between patient and hemodialysis nurse is essential. 6.Examination of venous access. 6.
