DeMaio to Release San Diego Serves Volunteer Action Plan to Achieve Ambitious Goal
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: st Wednesday, February 1 2012 WHAT: California ranks 45th nationally in volunteering and San Diego ranks 43rd out of 51 major metropolitan cities for low levels of civic engagement. Councilmember DeMaio believes these numbers are unacceptable. DeMaio believes volunteers can play a vital role in revitalizing all levels of San Diego city government and help stretch the taxpayers dollar during this fiscal crisis. To address this, Councilmember DeMaio is releasing his San Diego Serves a 13-point comprehensive volunteer plan to increase civic engagement and volunteerism in San Diego. WHY: Im challenging San Diegans to step forward and volunteer to make a difference in their community. City leaders should do their part to encourage volunteerism by implementing the targeted volunteer recruitment initiatives in my San Diego Serves Plan and by eliminating the government union rules that block volunteer service in city departments. --Carl DeMaio WHO: Councilmember Carl DeMaio Volunteers and representatives from Community Service Organizations WHEN: Thursday, February 2nd at 10:30 AM WHERE: North Clairemont Recreation Center 44221 Bannock Ave. San Diego, CA. 92117 CONTACT: Jeff Powell, 619-236-6655
