For more than two thousand years, the Traditional Chinese Medicine has been teaching the following exercises to effectively prevent us from getting ill. We are proud to share them with you here. Just practice them daily for about fifteen minutes. You shall witness their benefits.
Practice 1 Knock your teeth Instruction Open as wide as possible. Even if it might look ugly. (36X Times) Practice 6 Arms Dropping Instruction Dropping downward of both arms. Letting the vibration massages your neck and shoulder. Not swinging backward. Do it until you sweat. (108X)
Strengthens teeth, bone, facial muscles. Relief TMJ symptoms Temporomandibular joint ( disorder). Stimulates the parathyroid glands and kidneys which are responsible for calcium metabolism. Mouth is the opening of the Gastrointestinal track. Increases saliva and stimulates digestion. Will also stimulate Trigeminal Nerve V, sensory & motor functions (biting, chewing, and swallowing) 2 Massage your nose Two fingers on each side.(36X)
Lubricates your neck and shoulder. Strengthens trapezius muscles and spinal nerves, scalene and sternocleidomastoid muscles, neck extensor muscles. Reduces neck and shoulder pain, headaches, frozen shoulder, arm and wrist joint problems. Prevents carpel tunnel syndrome. In TCM*, this exercise strengthens the cardiac and respiratory system. Increases circulation to the heart and lungs. Reduces blood pressure, tightness of chest, shortness of breath. Opens the chest cavity for more oxygen flow. Arms dropping also stimulates the spinal nerve which connects to the major organs. 7 Rotate Your Hip Just the hip. Minimize shoulder and knee movement. (Clockwise & Counterclockwise 36X each)
The nose is the opening to the lungs. Reduces allergy by desensitize itchiness in the nose. Relieves sinus and nasal congestion, rhinitis, profuse nasal discharge, loss sense of smell. Helps to relieve the deviation of mouth, dyspnea (shortness of breath). 3 Roll your eyes Move the eys and not the head. Clockwise and counterclockwise (18 times each)
Stimulates core muscles and the abdominal aorta (the largest artery in the abdomen cavity). Strengthens spine and kidneys. Increases blood flow to the whole body especially the lower abdomen area. Benefits bowel and urinary function and uterus. Prevents aortic aneurysm. 8 Kick Your Legs Optional for Seniors. Kick higher, if you are younger. (18X for each leg)
Strengthens eye muscles. Reduces eye fatigue. Decreases lacrimation (tearing). Improves superficial visual obstruction, dimness of vision, visual dizziness. Reduces twitching eyelids. The eye is the opening of the liver energy channel. Eye disorder indicates an imbalance of the liver energy function. 4 Drum your head Tap with all ten fingers. Strong enough to feel the vibration. Begin at the back of the head, then the top. (48X)
Improves circulation to the lower part of the body. Relieves cold knees and feet, leg edema. Increases vessel elasticity and lower blood viscosity to flow back to the heart. Improves urinary functions. Improves balance and feet health. In TCM*, the feet is like the root of a tree. If the roots are weak, the tree will fall. Feet health is equated with longevity. 9 Full Body Shake Initiate with your knees until you sweat a little. (270X or two minutes.)
All energy travel up the head. Stimulates 13 pairs of cranial nerves (sensory and motor). This exercise wakes you up and enhances your focus. Helps you to think clearly. (11 pairs of cranial nerves emerge from the brainstem. Only two pairs emerge from the cerebrum.) Prevents stroke, epilepsy, mania-depression, insomnia, poor memory, headache, dizziness, deafness. Rejuvenates all 5 sense organs. 5 Squeeze your ears The entire ear (36X)
Massages all internal organs. Stimulates metabolism and energy in the body. This is a low impact cardio exercise to improve health.
10 Belly Breathing
Slow, Soft, Deep and Long. Lowering your diaphragm. (15 minutes)
Stimulating the ear will also trigger the Trigeminal nerve. In TCM*, the ear contains many acupoints (neurovascular nodes) that correspond to every major organs in the body including the spinal cord and brain.
Calms the CNS (central nervous system). De-activates the "Fight and Flight" response. Decreases cortisol production in the body to reduce inflammations. Creates homeostasis in the body.
