Cyber Security Malaysia is the national cyber specialist under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) that run by the Cyber999 help centre which is task with eradicating cyber crime. We hear that all the time. Fact is we get all these emails that could lead to fraud, too, most of the time. So what does constitute cyber crime? In this age of wired information, I managed to get to a document posted on the Royal Malaysian Police website. The Computer Crimes Act 1997 gives protection against the misuses of computers and computer criminal activities such as unauthorised use of programmes, illegal transmission of data or messages over computers and hacking and cracking of computer systems and networks. Cybercrime in Malaysia rose by 88 per cent in 2011, a government agency said Thursday. A total of 15,218 cybercrimes were reported last year, up from 8,090 in 2010, said CyberSecurity Malaysia, the government agency in charge of monitoring and preventing online crime. The majority were online fraud, with 5,328 cases, followed by intrusion or attempted intrusion, with 4,433, and cyber harassment, at 459.
