In retaining walls and the like, where water is likely to accumulate, weep holes, 50 to 75 mm square shall be provided at 2 m vertically

and horizontally unless otherwise specified. The lowest weep hole shall be at about 30 cm above the ground level. All weep holes shall be surrounded by loose stones and shall have sufficient fall to drain out the water quickly Provide weep holes to masonry structures higher than 2 m to drain water from back filling. Use 100 mm dia AC pipes and extend to the full width of masonry with 1:20 slope to the draining face. Stagger them suitably and their spacing shall not exceed 2 m in horizontal or 1 m in vertical direction, with the lowest one at about 150 mm above the low water level or bed level whichever is higher

2706. WEEP HOLE


Weep holes shall be provided in solid plain concrete/reinforced concrete, brick/stone masonry, abutment, wing wall and return walls as shown on the drawing or directed by the Engineer to drive moisture from the back filling. Weep holes shall be provided with 100 mm dia AC pipe for structures in plain/reinforced concrete or brick masonr y. In case of stone masonry, weep holes shall be 80 mm wide, 150 mm high or circular with 150 mm diameter. Weep holes shall extend through the full width of concrete/masonry with slope of about 1 vertical:20 horizontal towards the draining face. The spacing of weep holes shall generally be 1m in either direction or as shown in the drawing with the lowest at about 150 mm above the low water level or ground level whichever is higher or as directed by the Engineer.
Weep Holes 7.6.1 Weep holes shall be provided through abutments, wing or return walls and parapets as may be necessary with adequate arrangements being made to lead the water to the weep holes. 7.6.2 For abutments of canal crossing culverts, weep holes may be provided only above full supply level. No weep
