Below you can find some practical information about the Paawola site!
MOVING IN When can I move in? You can start moving in on the first working day (MonFri) of the month. Where and how can I get the key? You can collect the key to your flat from our Housing Office, located at Iidesaukio I, during office hours on the first working day of the month. Please bring your ID card when you collect the key. Why should I make a change of address notification? Make sure that your mail reaches you! Fill in a change of address notification at a post office or online. Please see www.posti.fi. What is TOASnet and how can I get it working in my flat? Can I watch cable TV? TOASnet is a fast and fixed Internet connection available in all TOAS flats. You can start using TOASnet once you have connected the modem to the network wall socket. TOAS provides the modem to your apartment, remember to leave the modem in to the apartment when you move out. You can watch cable-TV in your apartment. TENANCY Can I participate in tenant activities in my building and influence my living environment? There is a tenant committee in your building. You are welcome to participate in tenant activities and influence things at your site. TOAS supports tenant collaboration by allocating funds for this purpose every year. Tenant committees can decide how to spend the funds allocated to their respective sites on joint activities or purchases. Each tenant committee selects some of its members as representatives to the TOAS board of tenant committees, which is the joint mouthpiece for all TOAS tenants vis--vis TOAS decision-makers. How can I protect myself against damage? Home insurance is important for all homes, and a students home is no exception. Tenants are responsible for their own household appliances and for connecting and installing them. If an appliance causes damage requiring repairs to the flat, the tenant is liable to compensate TOAS for the costs incurred. To protect your own property and yourself against such damage, TOAS recommends that you take out home insurance. Typical examples of damage to flats include water damage, which in many cases is not confined to the tenants own flat. An incorrectly connected dishwasher or falling asleep in the shower, for example, could end up costing you dearly. Dont forget to take out home insurance you can get living security for as little as just over a hundred euro per year! What is my buildings rescue plan like? The building-specific emergency and rescue plans for accidents and emergencies for each TOAS housing location are available on the TOAS website. Please read the emergency and rescue plan on your locations page. Where can I get more tenancy-related information and The guide to good living? The TOAS website at www.toas.fi provides plenty of information for tenants and a chance to contact the Housing Office. On the front page you can access The guide to good living, which includes tips for everyday living. When and how should I pay the rent? The date on which your monthly rent is due is the 6 th day of that month. You should pay the rent using the bill you received when signing the rental agreement. Please make sure to always use the reference number when paying your rent. In any unclear issues relating to your rent, please contact our rental secretary as soon as possible. Who is the Housing Manager in my building, how about property maintenance and other important contact details? You can find information about your buildings Housing Manager and property maintenance company on the notice boards or on the front door of each hallway. Property maintenance companies provide a 24-hour on-call service. How has waste management been arranged? TOAS buildings have waste collection points with waste disposal units for different types of household waste. You can find 2 separate garbage sheds, one between the A- and C-block and other behind F- and G-block. What kitchen appliances are available in my apartment? The kitchen features a fridge, stove, oven, sink and a cooker hood, which is connected to the buildings ventilation system (please note that the hood is not equipped with an extractor fan). The user and maintenance instructions for the flats appliances, fittings and floor surfaces are located in the cleaning cupboard.

What kinds of washing machines can I bring to my flat? You can use the sites laundry room for doing laundry free of charge. You can also install a laundry machine and a dishwasher in your apartment. Only a professional can do the installation. The tenant will pay for the installation him/herself, and the fixed parts will remain in the flat when the tenant leaves. If the previous tenant has left a laundry machine in the apartment, you will be held responsible for the possible damages the use of the machine may cause. Is there a sauna in my building? How about a laundry room and a common room? Certainly. The laundry room (= pesula) and common room are located on the groundfloor in E-block. You can borrow the key to the common room from the tenancy committee. The saunas are located in the groundfloor in each block. The rent includes use of the laundry room and sauna. You can book the laundry room using the reservation book located in the laundry room. What may I attach to the walls? As a general rule, any sort of drilling into or attachments and changes to the structures are not allowed and, even in exceptional cases, must always be done in co-operation with the TOAS Housing Manager Department. What types of light fixtures do you provide for my home? Your flat is equipped with bathroom and kitchen lamps. It is the tenants responsibility to buy and install the lights and light bulbs. What storage facilities are available in my building? You can find the storage room for your apartment from the ground floor. Bicycle storages can be found from the ground floor in C-, E,- F- and G-blocks. There are also two separate bike sheds in the courtyard. The furniture storage room is located in the B-block ground floor In the furniture matters you can be in contact with Tuomo Hirvonen 044 3258 006. How can I get my name on the list of tenants? Your name will be added to the list of tenants in your hallway by the beginning of the second month of your tenancy. You may stick a name tag on the slip next to your flats door, which is easy to remove without leaving any stains when you move out. How do I report a fault? Please report any faults or deficiencies that you may notice in your flat on the TOAS website at www.toas.fi through the Reporting a fault section. What if there are disturbances in the building? The building has general rules and regulations that every inhabitant must comply with. These can be found on the inside of the cleaning cupboard door. In case of threatening disruptions or disturbance, you should contact the police by calling 112. Can I get a parking space? There is a car parking area with sockets for heating system across the Insinrinkatu. You can inquire for available parking lots from the housing office. OTHER POINTS TO CONSIDER There is a small gym maintained by the tenant committee in the B-block ground floor. There is a grill in the courtyard. There is a kindergarden across the Orivedenkatu. What services are available near my home? All the services can be found from shopping mall Duo in Insinrinkatu, 450m. Local groceries: There is a K-kauppa grocery store in the end of Orivedenkatu, app 150m. Bus connections: 23, 30 and 39. Distances to universities: University of Tampere about 6,7 km, Tampere University of Technology about 1,3 km, TAMK (Teiskontie) about 6,6 km. The contact details of your Housing Manager and the 24-hour service number of the property maintenance company are on the front door of the building.
