PREFACE
This Standard was prepared by the Standards Australia Committee SF-033, Chainsaw
Safety to supersede AS 2726.1—1995, Chainsaws—Safety requirements, Part 1: Chainsaws
for general use.
The objective of this Standard is to provide manufacturers and users with specifications for
safety requirements for chainsaws intended for general use to reduce the hazards that may
be encountered by the operator.
This edition takes into account the changes that have taken place in chainsaw design since
the publication of the previous edition.
This Standard is Part 1 of a two part series. Part 2 deals with the safety requirements of
chainsaws for tree service.
This is a free 6 page sample. Access the full version at http://infostore.saiglobal.com.
This Standard is based on the work of ISO/TC 23/SC 17, Tractors and Machinery for
Agriculture and Forestry—Manually Portable Forest Machinery and the Standards
developed by that Subcommittee, in particular ISO 11681-1:2004, Machinery for forestry—
Portable chain-saw safety requirements and testing—Part 1: Chain-saws for forest service.
In addition, the requirements given in IEC 60745-2-13:1989, Safety of hand-held motor-
operated electric tools, Part 2-13: Particular requirements for chain saws and
ANSI B175.1-2000, Gasoline-powered chain saws—Safety requirements have been
considered.
