About Metroparks
Metroparks of the Toledo Area is a regional system of premier natural, historical and cultural parklands. A public agency serving Lucas County, Metroparks maintains parks and conservation areas totaling 11,000 acres. The park districts mission is to enhance our quality of life and inspire preservation efforts in this and future generations.
Hours of Operation
All Metroparks open daily, 7 a.m. until dark. Admission: Free. Other hours and fees apply to specific attractions.
Programs
Metroparks programs and activities encompass a wide variety of interests related to the park districts purpose. Programs are open to everyone. Children must be accompanied by adults unless noted as a drop-off program. If you have a disabling condition and would like information and support for accessibility to programs, services, facilities or applying for a job at Metroparks, call 419-407-9701. Park Partners volunteers or interpreters are available upon request.

Metroparks Trails
Trails in each of the Metroparks offer a variety of distances and experiences, from winding dirt paths through the woods and prairies, to hardsurface all-purpose trails suitable for bicycling and skating. Oak Openings Preserve also has horse trails.

Nature Camp (Ages 8 to 12) Campers appreciation and understanding of nature is sure to evolve during a week exploring change at Wildwood Preserve. Outdoor games, interactive activities and exploring for animals keep inquisitive kids engaged as Metroparks naturalist guide them through natures ever changing features. Each day features a new theme making this a great experience for children who enjoy nature, history and the outdoors. Counselors In Training
Metroparks is seeking teens ages 13 to 17 with exceptional interests in nature, the environment and youth education to serve as Counselors in Training (C.I.T.s) for 2013 Metroparks Summer Camps. C.I.T.s work with camp counselors teaching campers, playing games, making crafts, fishing, canoeing, swimming and more! This is an excellent opportunity for leadership development, service hours and experience in outdoor education! Spaces are limited. National Center For Nature Photography (NCNP) Exhibits from the nations premier nature photographers hang alongside images by local talent in this gallery. The National Center for Nature Photography at Secor Metropark is the only center of its kind in the country. The National Center for Nature Photography in Secor Metropark will be undergoing renovations starting Saturday, December 15. Springtime Geocache Egg Hunt Youve never hunted eggs like this before! Families and adults are invited to bring GPS units to the Buehner Center to start the hunt for plastic eggs hidden in the park. Answer all the eggs questions to claim a prize (a springtime treat). Metroparks has a limited number of GPS units to loan on a first come, first serve basis (must leave drivers license to borrow). Calling All Webelos: Geologist Webelos will be amazed at how much rock and minerals surround them in everyday life. From homes to food to the roads we travel, geology affects everything we do. Participants will learn about mountains and fossils as well as visiting northwest Ohios local fault line at Farnsworth Metropark. The primitive trail may be challenging because of seasonal conditions. This is a drop-off program that runs rain or shine, so dress for weather. Behind the Scenes of Stranleigh See what it was like to live at Stranleigh, as the Manor House was once known. Small groups explore parts of the Manor House typically out of sight to the public. Volunteer opportunities are available at various Metroparks locations. For more information or to register your group call 419-407-9846. Volunteer Trail Patrol Needs You You may have seen them on the trails in their yellow shirts. Maybe they helped you with directions or by calling a ranger. The Volunteer Trail Patrol is now in all Metroparks. Applications are accepted year round and the Volunteer Department is always actively recruiting. January is the month to attend an informational orientation to learn more. Interviews are scheduled in February and trainings are held in March and April. The new patrol begins May 1. Raptor Research Project for Volunteers Raptors are very important indicators of ecosystem health. Attend the 2013 season kickoff meeting to learn how volunteers can help with the longterm breeding raptor monitoring program in the Oak Openings Region. Raptor Bioblitz Get involved in this important and fun field research project. Participants are teamed up for a selfdirected search for raptors in different areas of Oak Openings using a map and a focus list of species.
