II. Topic/Purpose/Theme: Re-enactment: Kadaugan sa Mactan Brief Discussion: Kadaugan sa Mactan is a celebration of cultural and historical event of Lapu-lapu City. The Battle of Mactan is among the significant events in the Philippine history. It serves as a testimony to the rich cultural and historical heritage of the Filipinos. Kadaugan sa Mactan or also known as Bahug-bahug sa Mactan is a commemoration of the historic Battle of Mactan between Ferdinand Magellan and Mactan Chieftain Lapu-lapu. Kadaugan sa Mactan is held in Punta Engao, celebrated every April 27. This event will help boost the citys tourism industry and will be the catalyst in preserving and conserving our heritage and culture.
Lapu-Lapu City. Cebu erected in honor of Datu Lapu-Lapu, a natve leader who defeated the Spanish soldiers and killed the Portugese explorer, Ferdinand Magelllan in the Battle of Mactan in 1521.
Bridge is the first of two bridges spanning across the Mactan Channel and connecting the islands of Cebu and Mactan.
Mactan-Cebu International Airport is a major international airport in the
Visayas region of the Philippines. It is also the countrys second primary gateway. MCIA is a major trade center in the south for both domestic and international traffic.
There are two MEPZ zones in Cebu: MEPZ 1 and MEPZ 2, both are located in Lapu-Lapu City. Both zones employ thousands of skilful workers and manufacture world-class quality products.

Unique Features Kadaugan sa Mactan Re-enactment Mactan annually celebrates Lapu-Lapu's victory in the epic battle against Magellan of the Spanish explorers at the Mactan Shrine with a re-enactment portrayed by local actors. This is a major attraction for the tourists and the locals in the city and draws a lot of crowd. The 3 ships of Magellan are represented by the bancas or canoes and they are made to lead a river procession up to the beach. This act is followed by the reenactment of the planting of the Magellan's Cross leading to the final act of LapuLapu's victory. Kadaugan sa Mactan literally implies about the 'Victory of Mactan'. It was also called Bahugbahug sa Mactan or 'Melee at Mactan' when it was initially staged in 1981. The exact time of the commencement of the festival mostly depends on the tidal conditions and otherwise it is known to begin at around 8 in the early morning hours. This festival is mostly celebrated on the 27th of April with much grandeur and pageantry. This festival grants the Cebuano people a good opportunity to re-visit the days of Mactan Battle between Magellan and Lapu-Lapu and also to celebrate their history and events.

Diners can enjoy hotel quality food with the evening entertainment to complete the festive mood and ambiance and because of the affordable prices; a lot of people look forward to the food festival. This also gives the participating hotels and resorts a lot of mileage and allows them to put their best foot forward to tourists.

Marketing Strategy Our strategy is to use an integrated marketing. We will be promoting the event by utilizing a variety of communication methods to direct traffic to the event website. One method of communication will be by word-of-mouth, enabling us to attract families and friends and both the local and international tourists. All pertinent event information will be posted on the event website, www.cebuparamount-planners.com and all other communication methods will offer a preview of the event to attract the attention of our target audience. The communication methods that we will employ include newspaper advertisements, posters, and a social networking site: Facebook. We also chose to keep our marketing materials gender neutral in order to stress that this is an event for everyone, and there will be programming elements for both boys and girls. The marketing materials will be distributed and utilized in the following manner: Website: Will be the main marketing tool for informing tourists about the highlights of the event. Information will be posted about the activities in line with the said event (Kadaugan sa Mactan) Posters: Will contain visually appealing and attractive images for our target audience, children, in order to capture their attention, or their parents Will have minimal, but pertinent information, including event name, date, time, location and website URL where they will be directed to find out more information about the event. Will print off 50 posters in colour (for a more appealing look) on 11X17 paper Will begin distributing posters one month prior to the event.
Newspaper Advertisements: Sizing of the advertisements will be page : 5.083 in. wide x 5.714 in. tall The advertisement will contain minimal, but pertinent information, including event name, date, time, location and website URL where they will be directed to find out more information about the event. The advertisements will not be run too early (i.e. more than 3 weeks prior to the event) so that individuals do not forget to purchase tickets Print advertisements are to be ready by March 01, 2013
Social Networking: Facebook will be the main social networking tool and will primarily be used to encourage both the local and international tourists to attend and/promote the event via word-of-mouth Facebook group will be created and all team members will be administrators. All team members will invite their friends and encourage participation in the group. Team Members will add wall posts to update the local and international tourists on the progress of the event including activities planned. S.W.O.T. Analysis S-Strength Culture Our Strength in marketing that we have a great cause that appeals directly to our target audience because it is for everyone. Another advantage we have is the past
event that was held last year. They had huge success with marketing in the newspaper. A large number of their guests attended because of that advertisement.
Highlights of the Activities This event will give tourists the best and memorable activities they will be experiencing. Market By using newspapers, posters, and a website we are reaching our target audience through a variety of mediums. We have a very large market to draw from. Since our event is being held in a central location with parking we can draw people from across the city. W-Weakness Cost We have no money to fund the marketing. We are relying on sponsorship. We do not get to appear in the newspaper as often as the previous group did. Processes Having to deal with pressure with newspaper deadline and only being able to get our ads in the paper on certain dates. O-Opportunity Partnership This could be a great partnership for sponsors. This being a niche of families could very well appeal to companies with products/services geared toward children or companies who are trying to put a good face towards the community. T-Threat Weather Condition The number of visitors will be lesser if there is a bad weather condition. Partners Some partners might see this as a good relationship but might also take advantage of the situation; might differ from the objective. Staff Loosing staff/volunteers is definite possibility because of our culture of working too much and too much stress.
