Note on Pronounciation
In Pi syllables are divided into long and short and they must be distinguished, otherwise the meaning changes. Long vowels take twice as long to sound as short ones. Short vowels are -a- -i- and -uLong vowels are -- -- - -e- -o- (also -a -i -u) Similarly double consonants must be pronounced as such and not simplified, or again the meaning changes. A word like paccatta is pronounced pac cat ta, not pacata bhikkhu is pronounced bhik khu, not bhikhu, and so on.
