Alumni Involvement The only way Phi Kappa Psi can continue to grow is through the valuable help and volunteering of our alumni. Most alumni are unaware of the volunteer opportunities available to them. Take a moment to focus on all of the different ways alumni can get involved to help the Fraternity: 1. Simple bystander Some people dont have the time to be a leader, but there are plenty of opportunities to get involved on a low-impact level: a. Attend alumni events (Homecomings, Founders Days and other activities) b. Organize social reunions for pledge classes or area alumni c. Offer career advice to students from a local chapter by contacting the chapter advisor d. Attend a GAC 2. Becoming involved Most people taking the time to come to any Phi Psi event are probably ripe for becoming a full-fledged volunteer. Encourage them to do the following: a. Become a chairman for the local alumni association and plan large events b. Mentor a local Phi Psi undergraduate from pledge to graduation c. Speak to local chapters on a particular area of strength d. Recruit other alumni to get involved and attend things 3. Becoming strongly involved Youll encounter many people who have been on the fringe of heavy involvement but just dont know the right way to become a stronger volunteer. Tell them there are vastly different ways to be a strong volunteer based on their interests: a. House Corporation Officer If they like being more hands-off with undergrads and have good financial or management skills, this is a good path b. Alumni Advisory Committee If helping students is their strength, get them involved with a chapter advisor 4. The best of the best You may not encounter very many people who are stuck at the previous level, but always encourage alumni to seek out the highest level of involvement if they are interested: a. House Corporation President b. Chapter Advisor c. National Officer d. Conference Facilitator This is our best recruiting opportunity for alumni volunteers. If you are traveling to speak in an area you are not familiar with, take a moment to contact Headquarters and find out about the alumni and chapters of the area you will be visiting, to help you connect better with the audience.

Tips to remember If it isnt a part of the program, make sure everybody in the room introduces themselves with their name, chapter and initiation date. You can also have everybody add an additional piece of information to try and connect them (occupation, favorite sports team, etc.). Encourage participation and questions after your remarks. You may not be able to directly answer the question, but you can always have them call the national office (317-632-1852). Work the room and talk to as many people as possible before and after your remarks. View yourself as a salesperson for Phi Kappa Psi and every alumnus as a client. Your goal is to sell them (even more than they already are) on the Fraternity and ways to get more involved.
