Personal statement
What are your reasons for applying for the course you wish to study? Explain how it will help your career and personal development on your return to Nigeria. Be brief we can explore the details at interview if necessary.

I SALISU MUSA BORODO being a graduate of computer science and presently a masters student in the same course would like to pursue for a doctorate degree in the same field with the support of your prestigious scholarship; so as to be part of the driving force that would improve the state of my dear country Ngeria. A doctorate degree in comuter science would dfinitely provide me with the requisite training and knowledge so that i can contribute my quota to the betterment of the country especially in achieving the countrys vision2020 as well as making me part of the skilled workforce required in achieving the Local Content policy of the Oil sector. The knowledge to be pursued would also give me an edge in the information age that is driving the globalised world we are llving in.

Your plans for the future, ambition and vision

Please provide an outline of your ambitions and career plan. Reason for applying for this course. How do you intend to make a difference in Nigeria? Try to do this in no more than 250 words. We can discuss your plans at interview. I intend to make a profound difference in my country by relying on the Information Technology tools and technologies that are rapidly changing the way people live in the world. This plan I hope to pursue by designing computer solutions (Software) that would directly make an impact especially to the millions of Nigerians that are in Need of such Software solutions, this might include medical, agricultural and other software solutions that would be designed so that the potntial of Nigerians would be utilized through these Information Technology initiatives. I hope this would be my quantum help in reshaping this Great country of ours that is still trying to achieve its full potentials.

How do you demonstrate integrity and command respect?

Describe one of the most difficult decisions you ever made. What made it so difficult? What process did you use to make the decision? Give examples of this. Try to do this in no more than 250 words. We can discuss it further at interview. One of the most difficult decisions I made in my life was concernig the one year compulsory National Youth Service Corps that I did in Ogun State, south west Nigeria. This was a difficult decision for me because I have never crossed the River Niger so as to be in the Southern part of the country, several people also suggesteed that I should just go and Work my way out so as not to be posted to the southern part of the country. The security situation in the country was another factor that tried to impede me also. But after carefull brainstorming I realized that this was an Eye opener for me to go the other part of the country and see the life, culture and most importanlty live with other Nigerians apart from the ones I have live with in my entire life. This was the recurring feeling that kept on radiating in my skull which eventually made me to decide to have the mandatory NYSC program which eventually took place in Ogun state at a Private University called Crescent. The process taken to overcome this hurdle was by simply allowing the Normal posting of the scheme to be out without making any move so as to be posted to a much closer state to home. This decision I took is a priceless one that I cherish in my life and I think would command me respect from other Nigerains and other Global citizens in general.

Important information that you should read and understand before signing this application form
Anyone applying for the NLNG Post Graduate Scholarship should be aware of the following: (i) Application: your application (including anything you add at interview or afterwards) should be accurate, not omit any facts that are relevant and not be misleading. If we find that there are significant errors or omissions in the information you 8
NLNG 1 (October 2012)

have supplied to us in the course of your application you will not be offered a Scholarship, or you will have your Scholarship withdrawn or terminated. (ii) Selection: the selection process will be fair. No applicant will have, or should seek or accept, any unfair advantage. No member of the British Council or Nigeria LNG Limited will unfairly promote or disadvantage the interests of any applicant. If we find that you have secured an unfair advantage in the selection process we reserve the right not to offer you a Scholarship, or withdraw or terminate your Scholarship. Finding a course of study: we encourage applicants to identify the course [ within the identified and approved disciplines] and institution that fits their precise needs, to apply independently and secure a conditional place on the course as early as possible. Many of the most popular courses at top institutions are filled very early. However, this is not a requirement. We will help Scholars who are successful at interview to find a course and institution that fits their requirements. But if we cannot find a suitable course at a suitable institution (perhaps because all the places have already been allocated) then we reserve the right to withdraw the offer of a Scholarship. Our policy is not to allow applicants to defer. An applicant who has not secured a place on a suitable course will have to reapply. You must not make commitments, especially commitments with financial consequences, until you know that you have a confirmed place on a suitable course. Medical: we expect all applicants to reveal all relevant details in the medical form that accompanies their application, if necessary provided in confidence, in a sealed envelope, addressed to the NLNG Post Graduate Scholarship Manager at the British Council to ensure your privacy is protected. If you are offered a Scholarship it will be conditional on a further satisfactory medical report. If that medical report is not satisfactory we reserve the right to withdraw the offer of a Scholarship. If you are successful at interview, it will be in your interest to arrange for your medical report to be completed as soon as possible. You must not make commitments, especially commitments with financial consequences, until you know that your medical report is satisfactory. Entry clearance: you must tell us when you apply if there is anything (such as previous convictions or associations with terrorist organisations) that may be an impediment to securing a visa or entry clearance to study in the UK. If we find that we cannot provide you with a visa for any reason then we will withdraw the offer of a Scholarship. You should not make commitments, especially commitments with financial consequences, unless you are certain that there will be no impediment to you securing a visa or entry clearance to study. Changes of circumstances: if your circumstances change by an event or events that are genuinely beyond your control, or in ways that are generally unexpected, you should contact us immediately. We will take reasonable steps to ensure that you can take up your Scholarship, perhaps by providing extra support or finding an alternative course at an institution that can provide such support. But we reserve the right to withdraw the offer of a Scholarship if we feel that the circumstances are such that this is in the best interests of the applicant or Nigeria LNG Limited.
